Automatics..for newbies..really???

I despise autos, it goes against what we drive "Heavy Machinery" as some have called them. I believe in driving and controlling the vehicle. Not just holding a steering wheel.

 

Your bank account and the people you pay your bills to won't know the difference.

 

This. I like driving, not playing video games.

 

I just believe heavily in not Having an auto in a truck that controls 80,000lbs of metal going down the road. Idk, just like a classic stick shift I suppose

 

If you don't understand how to shift, know what engine and road speeds are and general control of the truck, you don't need to be behind the wheel of a 80,000lb. truck.

 

Aw, c'mon. All that learning about shifting and stuff just delays me earning that $100K/yr that the recruiter promised!

 

I have read that too, I have no expirence driving a truck or with Manual transmissions but I am willing to learn especially with 80,000 lbs under my foot I need something that will help me control the vehicle better. Also shifting helps you stay focused more and you get a better feel of the vehicle...that's just my personal take. I think so many people become complacent with automatics that they think everything should be automatic. My mom told me growing up most cars had manual trannys and that was the way most learned. So looking at the possibilities. Also automatics wear out quicker and cost more to repair. Hmm 80,000 lbs and auto not a good match.

 

If you have gone through training and feel absolutely confident in your ability to shift then there is no reason driving an auto is a detriment regardless of what some people will tell you. I would be more concerned about backing skills, and the ability to get down the road safely.

 

I agree with the bit about backing skills and getting down the road safely, but how many people who've only ever shifted in school are actually going to know what they're doing when they have to shift a truck again a year later, after they decide the company with the autos which they worked for wasn't going to be a permanent home for them? I'd dare to say not very many.
But, I digress... if someone wants enough rope to hang themselves with, let them have it.
