I'm just out of school and have a new CDL. Hard enough as that is in getting a job, but I'm also a felon and it's a very serious charge. I have been out a while and have been productive, am married and am helping raise two kids. It's a very ideal life. But I have that felony; I've been working but hit the glass ceiling as far as pay goes. My wife's a nurse and makes more than me and is extremely supportive and knows it will be tough. I know a couple people in the industry who are trying to help me and something may come through later on but I got my CDL to work and support my family. I will do whatever it takes to succeed and we have decided we will move to where the work is. But my question is, what companies will hire an ex felon with a serious charge? And any other advice will be much appreciated in getting started. Thanks
What companies would give an ex-felon a chance to prove themselves?

This is one of the rare times I would recommend the small ma n pop outfits that advertise on Craigslist. One of them will take you.

How old is your felony?
-
17 years, but I did over twelve years. People who meet me would never know (have some funny stories on that) and those who do have a hard time believing it, but I haven't been out five years yet.

I have been on craigslist, for different states, too. I go cross eyed sometimes, but the inexperience gets me too. Still waiting to hear back from some places but I've been here before; it'll be tough.

What was the felony? 12 years is a long in the big house. I hope you're a good boy now. Perhaps try CR England just don't flease.

Gonna be an up-hill battle at best to start with. You may have to settle for a less than stellar company to start with. But there are those that will give you a chance...others may later on , after you've gotten several years of good steady employment with a great safety record behind you. Employers are gonna set the bar pretty high too so be ready to be tested. You're gonna have to realize too that you will be competing against other drivers that don't have your past so be patient, do as you're asked and drive safe. Good Luck.

2nd degree murder. I got screwed pretty badly, which is kind of irrelevant. What's done is done, but the judge knew I had been screwed; he gave me only half of what was normal. The type of thing that will definitely freak a prospective employer out. Very hard for them to get an impression of you when you apply online too, that is all they see. I've been very lucky in seeking employment so far, it kinda helps if your ex-prosecutor is a reference (long story), but mostly that doesn't help much either.

Thanks, life is all uphill nowadays but I made peace with that fact. I realize I need to be the best at everything I do or at least near the top at all times, it's become a way of life.
Tonythetruckerdude and d o g Thank this.
