I just recently tested to get my cdl license in Massachusetts. I almost passed, but I failed two maneuvers. Anyways, to make a long story short I take ativan for generalized anxiety disorder and celexa for depression. I had a problem with my medica insurance last week and I couldn't get my ativan. I was so out of it when I didn't have it, I couldn't drive, eat, think straight, had the shakes, etc...... After five days of complete misery and being incompetent, I finally got my ativan and I went back to normal.

Now, im a very intelligent person, but going those five days without my ativan makes me think twice about driving a tractor trailer. I worked so hard and came a long way (classroom for 2 and a half months and four months of extensive driving and maneuvering). I excelled so well and im so close to getting the license. Now, back in 2008 I had a couple of panic attacks while driving my car, but as soon as i got put on ativan my panic attacks went away and i felt normal ever since (while taking ativan).

Now im confused and don't know what to do. I really wanted to drive tractor trailers to get off of the streets and do something with my life for once that's not negative. Im turning 30 in a couple months, have a daughter to support, and I just want to do the right thing and get a decent paycheck at the end of the week as a productive member of society. Should I just quit if I need the ativan that bad?? What have I done, I should have thought more about my condition, but I was doing fine until I ran out of ativan. Im confused, disappointed in myself, scared, and lost. Someone please reply.

You want to drive, while taking ativan?
You answered your own question. Do you think that its a good idea to be driving while not on that kind of medication? Well, do you?
FIND ANOTHER INDUSTRY, TO SCREW UP IN.
One that doesn't come with 40T vehicles.

Is this post for real. You have major panic attacks while driving unless you take a med that you can not be on while driving a commercial vehicle. What do you think the answer is?

Sounds like withdrawals to me... But I'm not a Doc... Plus with the urine drug screens?? Nope I don't think you would pass... Get off the Ativan and find other ways to cope with the anxiety, THEN try driving... Good luck to you!

Guy was just asking a question. Obviously if he knew the answer, he wouldn't be here putting himself out there.

No reason to give his grief

Yeah some people are a bit harsh.. but sounds kind of like he was wanting validation one way or the other.. I think he already knew the answer..

No you shouldn't be around a truck.. go talk to your doctor and ask him what he thinks.... Get his advice talk to your state troopers office... They will give you the legal answer.. The common sense answer is no...

I am glad he you asked the question though.. You at least had enough since to wonder....

Time out, enough sense to wonder????? First of all I got a clear medical card and I told them what was the deal. Second, my doctor cleared me, therapist cleared me, etc..... I thought I could come on here and ask some real truckers about it, but I guess everybody got their panties in a bunch, smmfh.

As an OTR driver, you will be away from home for weeks at a time. Will you have access to medication if you run out on the road? What if you're broken down for a week and can't get to place to get a refil on your script? Ask yourself, would you feel comfortable having your daughter ride with you in an 80k lbs vehicle? If the answer is no, then please don't put my daughter at risk either. When accidents happen in this industry, it often leads to the serious injury or death of others. Everyone out there on the road is someone's loved family member and if you feel that you can't do this job safely, every single day all day, then don't do it.

Partner, I don't think it is "Panties in a wad" I think it is a concern for the others traveling around you, Is this med going to keep you from having a "Break Down" while driving? If it does, then fine if not, I don't think you should be driving a truck, Let me ask you this, Do you stress out when you have pressure placed upon you? What about when you are 800 miles from a drop and you can't make the deadline? Dispatch is chewing your butt, How do you handle this? How do you deal with issues on the road? Let's say you get a cold or the flu, That is stressful enough at home, and is much worse out there where you can't just run to the rest Room and let things go, You really need to think this over, I think you would be better at a desk job where if you have an attack then the Paramedics can come and take you for medical care without you putting the truck in the ditch or worse off you taking that mans wife and family out of this world and you going to the big house never to see day light in your own time frame. My friend I wish you well, I hope you find the happy medium and that you can support your child. Take Care.
