Greetings all, Im trying to find out what the process is to get a Canadian CDL starting from a US CDL.

Do I need to be a resident first?

Do i need to rent a CDL truck for road test?

is Test offered in English as opposed to French?

    all info appreciated.

Do you have a job lined up? What makes you think you can just go up there and get a CDL and then start trucking.?
of course you have to get legal and residency, you can't just show up and hey presto, things fall into place.
Canada is no different to the US or any other country.
Immigration has really tightened up over the years. As for Quebec, everybody there is pretty much bilingual so if you plan to aim for there, better start learning French.
If it was me, I would consult an immigration attorney up there to find out the criteria. I'd like to bet that even a Canadian citizen won't know their immigration policy.
    Good luck

You can probably get your CDL easy enough. Not sure if you will be able to get a job legally though. You would be a wet back. St. Lawrence River is c-c-c-cold this time of year too. there is still ice floating down river as of last night.

I was in some small town in northern Quebec and I needed to buy a lighter. The cashiers didn't speak English and my French is very poor. I made hand motions and the cashier finally seemed to clue in. She reached behind the counter and pulled out a Toronto Maple Leaf lighter. We both started laughing and I said "Oui!"

Most people in Quebec speak or (understand)english but they don't want too..they take pride of their language to extreme measures.

anyhow, for me to get my driver auto-license , i had to schedule an interview where the most important part is to prove the residency statues . Then you exchange your DL based on criteria such as when did you obtain your lic.

And it can be in english orFrench

expect to spend a month to get an appointment and if some document is missing , then you schedule another appointment about a month or so
