The Lunatic is on the grass, The Lunatic is on the grass,
Remembering GAMES and daisy chains and laughs,
Got to keep the Loonies on the Path,
The lunatic is in the hall, the lunatics are in My hall,
The paper holds there folded faces to the floor, and everyday the paper boy brings more,
And if the dam breaks open many years too soon, and if there is no room upon the hill,
And if your head explodes with dark forbodings too, i"ll see you on the dark side of the moon,
The lunatic is in my head, The lunatic is in my head,
There"s someone in my head but it"s not me
I can"t think of anything to say except.....
I think it"s marvelous............Ha,Ha,Ha..........Had a Floyd moment again...The above is a metaphor..:biggrin_2554:Kidding around is over, Now I"m Gonna go Hard:biggrin_25510:, Sound"s like your games are more important than a serious job where lives could be at stake, time to cowboy up and put the play station down...:biggrin_2555:

Apoca, spending hours at a time gaming is more than a hobby, it is more of an addiction. If you wish to become a trucker and have a prosperous and safe career, then put aside the gaming and focus on learning the job as a trucker as your primary focus. We already have plenty of drivers on the road who do not take this job seriously. Many of whom end up in a place they do not wish to be due to distractions ruling their lives.

Keep the toys at home to enjoy on your days off away from the truck. :)

What are you using to game on? If a laptop, you can purchase a stronger battery that will have a longer life. It's a bit pricey (I'm sure you know that) but seems like a good investment for "on the truck" entertainment. That would give you a few hours of play and then you could recharge during the hours you are rolling. Also, if you have a problem putting the game down, the battery dying would ensure you got off after so long! <wink>

Not sure what all the worry is about you doing this. My husband has teamed with a few guys who use their down time to play on line games. All of them used their phones as hotspots. He's not a gamer, but we've invested in ways to give him some entertainment on his down time. Books and TV/DVD. I'm thinking about getting him a handheld game like a gameboy or something as he does like the simpler games. But he has an APU on his truck so he's able to plug up his electronics. I'd recommend making sure you find ways to unplug every once in awhile to mix amongst drivers if you're at a decent driver's lounge, though. I can honestly say that as a newbie, the best way to learn tricks of the trade is chatting with some of the long horns. It's been an invaluable advantage for my dude.

Just what are you other guys doing when you're not driving? Not trying to be sarcastic, just honestly curious about the reaction to this post. What about 34 hr reset?

See I don't know, I have zero experience with you as a person and less with you as a poster. So I assume what you could do by your questions and have to because I care about MY safety and the safety of others around you and when I see people speak about gaming, know how addicting that is, you can say what you want to say but I rather stay on the cautious side of things and stick to what I said.

I don't doubt he was doing something, I am not on the investigation team so it may be or something different BUT seeing you are here asking questions that if you were driving you would know, then I can tell you that you never heard anything, it is very possible that someone can play a game that they can't drive safely and drive.

    What's this about road hypnosis?

    Really?

    Good luck, glad it helps.

You need to keep in mind that my current job is playing and then reviewing computer games. That accounts for a lot of my play-time these days. Even with my relatively low workload, it can sometimes be required to play 100+ hours a week, simply to meet a deadline. Personally, the past few years I haven't been able to play a game for more than 2 hours in one go, mostly due to turning my hobby into a job (something I want to avoid doing again). I need frequent breaks from it and I prefer reading just as much nowadays. Sometimes, I do end up playing a games for hours-on-end, but there's usually one or two games every few years that can make me want to sit down and play for a longer period of time.

Also, not sure how participating in a hobby for hours a day results in it being an addiction. I don't consider my bud from High School an addict when he goes to work every day and works on motors, and then spends a majority of the time before and after dinner when he gets home working on motors for his own personal pleasure. People spend hours at a time, sitting in the same place reading a book and yet no one calls it an addiction. Heck, I know people that sit outside on their porch from 5pm to 9pm every night, just sitting there and doing nothing, yet I do not assume they're addicted to it. It's just what they like to do with their free time.

I'm guessing some of you guys are resistent to the fact that I enjoy gaming due to your age and having learned a majority of what you know about gaming from horror stories on the internet/news/newspaper. But, like I said, I don't plan to play myself to exhaustion and then drive while I'm on the verge of blacking out. I don't think I could pull that off even if I wanted to. I do mostly computer games, and a bit of console, so I don't think I could manage either of that while driving, so no worries there. I'm also not the type to neglect work for my gaming, nor my family or anything of that sort. I also am not the type of guy to have his hand constantly on his cellphone, either.

So please, everyone, feel free to cease worrying about me starting trucking and then somehow my gaming causing the deaths of myself and several other poor folks because of my neglect. It simply wont happen, because it's an impossibility. I would have to literally try hard to make it happen, and that's not something I want to happen at all. If I do decide to look further into trucking, anyways.

Not 100% sure what you mean here. Are you saying you don't understand what I'm talking about when I say road hypnosis, or are you saying the lulling effect that spending long hours of time watching the road can have is a non-possibility?

Defender is actually one of my all-time favorite games. Both the original, and the GameCube remake. Most of those "old school" games pretty much transcend generations and anyone can love and enjoy them, including space invaders. It's just unfortunate that most people don't take the time to try some of the older arcade/atari games.

Eh, I've heard of it before. However, I never quite paid attention to it because I didn't have any need to worry about it. Generally, when I'm away from home, I don't need to have a game within reach at all times or anything. The only reason I'm thinking about wifi/interne while on the road now is that going 2-6 weeks without a bit of gaming is a lot different than going for a few-days-to-a-week.

The last time I read into tethering/rooting/hotspotting/etc... was when 3G was the big thing, and I heard nothing but bad things when trying to game with 3G.

Then keep doing what you enjoy. Leave the trucking to those who are committed to it.
