Has anyone ever heard of this?

New truck driver telling trainer that he feels like he is driving to much. When he needs 200 hours in order to test out and go solo.

 

Yes we know that people flake out but getting a CDL to drive... a truck... and trainer allows as many hours as he can legally drive. Then being told by student who needs behind the wheel hours to get to solo status he is driving too much is backwards. Did he not sign up to drive a truck? Trying to make it compute.

 

well. You and me both. Because a student I was training a few hours ago decided to wait until I went into the terminal to clean out his stuff and leave spare key on driver seat and go to a hotel. Without telling me or the company anything. Texted him what's going on? and he said his return is not likely. That I should run the truck solo and leave without him. Talked to night crew here and night crew at my terminal and he said nothing to them about anything.

Guy here asked after I told him how he responded said, " he said what? No he needs to talk to the fleet manager before doing something like that." Got his number and called him and that is when student stated he was driving too much. Guy wants us to talk about it tomorrow morning and work it out.

 

You're over thinking it, and the student apparently didn't think about it enough. You've got someone who can't hack it, and they'll be moving on to something else before too much longer.[/QUOTE] I believe you're right.I am over thinking it.what would you do about getting student back on the truck in a situation like this? I already have an idea but I just want to be sure it's not just me.

 

Also for clarification. We are not teaming. This was his first week out almost 2nd complete week. Mandated to let student drive 50 hours while I'm in passenger seat instructing and assisting student while he was driving. Then depending on if i deemed him fit to team drive we would team the rest of training. Which I'm against and even told student that's not training when he brought up teaming.

 

no we just got off a 34 reset. He drove 6-8 hours a day at his saying so. I even asked him do you want to park for the day? He stated no I'm fine I still have hours. And he even asked if running 11 hours is a smart thing to do I told him no. You will run out of hours that way.
