Good Morning all,
I just graduated from Western Truck School here in West Sac. I have been doing lots of research but I have been hearing lots of negative about almost all companies. Please give me any advise on how to chose the best company. I have Hazmat, Tanker & DBL/TRPL and just waiting for my TWIC now.
Here is the list of companies that I have been looking at:
1. Schneider National
2. May
3. Con-Way
4. DTL Logistics (Paper Logs only)
5. Western Express
6. Prime Inc.
Please tell me if there is anyone else I should be looking at. I want a steady miles and dont really want to be out with a trainer longer that 4 weeks.
Thanks
Ben

Watkins-Shepard - 10 days with a trainer & that's all you need. You can have more time if you request it.
TWT Refrigerated Services
System Transport
KKW Trucking
Halvor Lines
Melton Truck Lines
Gardner Trucking
Reddaway
YRC Freight
Pride Transport
Navajo Express
Central Oregon Truck Company
Leavitt's Freight Service
United Van Lines-Safeway Moving
Note - Ignore any "Experience Required" and submit an application anyway. Most have online applications. All companies are hurting for drivers & if they see your application, they may just bend the hiring rules and put you to work.
One new CDL grad just got on with Leavitt's Freight Service.ZephyrSoCal, Bass Ackwards Bo, PikesPeak and 1 other person Thank this. -
Remember that every one has a different prospective on companies so advice is always slanted a bit and definitely biased. Rule 1. to quit prior to 13 months is not good. It leaves the ground work for you being a job hopper unless you have solid reasons for leaving. Grass is greener is not good.
Rule 2 and probably the most important is take pictures of the truck assigned to you before you leave the property. Inside and out. Every thing . Seats for cigarette burns, body damage, mirror damage, holes in dash. tires and tread depth and dot numbers. This is to CYA. New drivers tend to be screwed over more than experienced driver and this will help protect you. Do the same when you give it back to them.Wild Murphy, knuckledragger, DJGuam and 6 others Thank this. -
Thanks Gordon A good tip. And also thanks to CT for the company advise.

Do you want to run OTR? If you want to run local the company I work for will hire you provided you pass a short drive test. You'd start out hauling tomatoes, then almonds then if you are still around they will train you to pull tanks next liquid season. Stick around long enough and you could go OTR hauling fertilizer, food grade, reefer or fuel oil.
Best of all, no trainer except when liquid season starts and then you'd only be on the truck 3 days. Home every night. Pay is percentage of load.knuckledragger, Chinatown, PikesPeak and 1 other person Thank this. -

What company is this? I just graduated from CDL school, and am having a hard time trying to decide on a company.....I know I don't really want to do flatbed, too old for all that, drybox is fine, refer, tanker (already have my tanker endorsement, no hazmat yet). I live in the southeast, and am looking for a good company to start with. OTR is ok, but Regional would be better to start.
Thanks!Chinatown Thanks this. -
Bass Ackwards Bo Thanks this.
