I started the process to get a new passport this week. It was expired so the process wasn't so bad. I guess I really don;t have a question about that lol

TWIC.....looks like I am eventually going to have to get one. And I am a little confused. What exactly do I need it for....is it just for ports, or is it needed for other things as well.

How long does it take to get one?

And where exactly do I go to get it. I google search and all of these expedited TWIC services pop up that don't seem worth it. Should I just go to an office and fill out everything, or is there an actual website for doing so?

    Thanks in advance

Here is the website for TSA. You make your appointment through there. Took me two to three weeks after I went in for my fingerprints before I was approved. Once TSA does your background check, you go back to the same place where you did your fingerprints and you get your TWIC card issued. Actually it is the same process as getting your HAZMAT. Same process, same locations.

I believe it is just for ports but I am not sure. I know Schneider needed me to have one for the job I was applying for, but the company I am working with now (Old Dominion) doesn't require it.

Awesome, I am going straight to that site after lunch.
I guess I will have to visit that location twice, since I will be getting HAZMAT as well....not sure I need it, but everyone says I might as well get it just in case.

    Thank you very much

    No problem..

If you can afford it then I would go ahead and get it. Same thing with all the endorsements. When I got all my endorsements I didn't get my doubles and triples, but when I applied with Old Dominion (OD) they said I needed it. I didn't have a problem getting it, but it was another thing I had to study for. It is a hassle going to the same location twice and paying for yet another TSA background check, but the Govt needs to get their money somehow LOL.. Good luck!!

Yeah I am planning to knock out any and all endorsements I can while In school. The way I look at it is this.....I don't want to be the guy that has to pass over work because I don't have a piece of paper that says I can or can't do something. I may end up using all of them, or some of them, or very few of them.....but I don't want to be "that guy". And after a year or so with a "starter" company, I plan on trying to find a niche to get into, and I do not want the lack of anything to get in the way of that.

    Very smart!!

Also, if you get all your endorsements knocked out before you get your CDL issued, then when you do get your CDL, everything is added at one time. If you decide to get an endorsement added to your CDL later, you have to pay a fee to add it..

I just applied for a TWIC card yesterday. Pre-enrolled online and scheduled an appointment, the appointment lasted 15 minutes or less, it was quick. The card should arrive in the mail in 3-6 weeks. Very easy and quick process, $129.75. Oh, and since I had a current passport, that is all the documentation/identification I needed for the process.

    129.75...wow

How long is it good for after they issue it to you?

    How much is a renewal?
