I've been checking the forum for a while and have been going back and forth about getting my Class A. I have experience running flatbed with straps, not chains but it was building supplies that didn't need that hard of a tie down. I enjoy driving and don't mind being on the road some, worked OTR for nine months and know what that's like. I have been to some job fairs and talked to reps from different types of companies. I have the tanker endorsement already and have done some pulling of trailers, nothing more than 1500-2000#. I've been told by some reps don't know if they were recruiters or someone just being present and the job fairs but have been told that they have a hub close to where I live and could run regional and be home on the weekends because they believe in family time and have a region in my area that I could run. I know from experience about the dispatchers and others telling you something to get you to come work for them. I've been commercial for nine(9) years now and working in shipping/receiving/warehouse for 16 years now. I have been unemployed for a while now, and benefits have run out. Wife works but we still struggle like everyone else in this economy. I don't have anyone at home other than the wife and get the kids every other weekend and they are up in age where things are not as important to be present at. I have talked with a rep from Cypress Truck Lines that told me I could go to work for them and be home every weekend running regional. I've read employee reviews about them, the good and the bad and understand you have to put your time in the trenches and get experience before you get a newer truck. I'm just looking for a little insight from those that have been out there a while. I can get a little discount upgrading from B to A where I got my B at. Just trying to get some input on what the industry is like now that the economy has started picking up.

    Thanks,

There's several companies with weekend home time:

    Jordan Carriers
    Builders Transportation Co.
    CT Transportation
    Mansur Trucking Co.
    McElroy
    Florida Rock & Tank

Sunstate Carriers - if you live in the hiring area.
