https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5JMBvw8viQw or https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pG20gacNLYc both are first year drivers both are OTR. Has the pay changed for first year drivers between 2011 - 2014 that much? One guys wages are very low and the others is almost doubled in some cases. I keep hearing that first year drivers get crap pay. But honestly I could get by 800 -1000 take home after training of course. I currently make 45- 50k a year but, It doesn't have the upside that perhaps an owner operator does ( that's way down the road if I choose to do this). Currently I have a CDL A with tanker endorsement, but no actual semi or T/T experience just dump truck w/ backhoe and trailer. I'm just debating on if its worth it to put it to use.

If you currently make 50k not trucking then dont do trucking...as a solo i do a little over 60k and earn every penny of it.

there are some who make more in specialized areas but i choose to do what i do...

individual results will vary depending on many factors.

Sometime its not about the money. I am looking for the best deal I can find and then hope to go to a CDL school and straight to work for a company with good wages , equipment , home time weekly or every 2 weeks , wife will ride with me so if I need to stay out a little longer no problem.
I am looking at it as an adventure , I am 60 and work overseas and am ready to move back to the USA :)

Exactly.....some parts of the industry pay really well , with plenty of home time....every night even. But sometimes it can come at a cost....I did the food service thing for over 30 years....made a great living , and retired fairly comfortably....but , food service is a very , very hands-on job....like I said a trade-off.....I , myself , thought it was worth the effort....others however may see it in a different way.

there will be people who make $50000 first year but they are few and far between
    average is $35000 first year

Sometimes it takes a couple of decades before you find that high dollar gig. Be ready to work like a red headed step child.

I actually am looking into Sysco. I understand the foodservice industry pays well but, youll work your ### off unloading your truck since you touch all of your freight.
