I recently ran a red light, in my personal vehicle, and the traffic camera took a picture and i recieved a ticket in the mail. I am eligible for traffic school to keep the points off my license. I do not have a CDL yet, only a CDL permit. If i take the traffic school course, does it mean the violation will not be on my motor vehicle record at all?

Depends on the state.......I would say yes, if you don't have your CDL yet take traffic school to get it off your record but like I said, depends on the state. In AZ CDL holders are not elgible for traffic school.

Your probably gonna get about 9 different answers here neither one being the same as the other...when dealing with this stuff it is better to ask the state. I can speak from experience that in this age of stored information sometimes stuff shows up even when it shouldn't and usually at the wrong time.

Why aren't you fighting the red light ticket?

For the most part what tickets you get while driving your personal vehicle will show on your CDL record, it is all the same record.

I believe this is correct. Check with the city where the ticket was issued. At the department I used to work at in Texas, we had red light cameras. However, these were municipal fines, and the only repercussions of getting one was the fine levied by the city. Nothing went on a persons record. It was just a monetary fine to the driver to get them to slow down. I highly doubt that the ticket will go on your record and show on your license, but I would double check with the city to make sure.

If they wern't going to put it on his record, why would they offer him traffic school to keep it off?

That is why I said to check with the city that the "ticket" was issued in and I would talk to someone in their Traffic division if it is a large enough city to have that. Most red light fines are only fines because an officer did not witness the actual traffic violation, a traffic camera/machine did. I guess a better term would be that it is a "civil fine" and not a "ticket". A "ticket" can go on your record, a civil fine can not. Again, this is at the department I used to work at so the city where he received this may be different. That is why he needs to check. So many people just take what they are told at face value and pay the fine and pay the money for traffic school when it MAY not be needed.
