I am starting trucking school in 2 weeks the course lasts 4 weeks I am looking at a few companies where the training will b from 5 weeks to 2 months. By that time it will be the middle of January or first of February. I don't mind driving in the snow in my car. Should I have more experience under my belt before attempting winter driving in a truck?
Starting at a bad time??

Why would you think you need more exp to learn to drive during the Winter months? My opinion says Winter is the best time to learn.I learned in the winter and my first run with a trainer was to Calif and up over Donners Pass and also went that way back.

Ain't no time better than the present. Just do it. Good luck, and stay calm.

I started driving a logger in the Winter. I needed a job and that was all there was. After that everything else was easy.

You are training when you go to school, you are getting experience when you are working.

Better to learn winter driving skills while you've got the expertise of your trainer than after training & you're out there on your own.

My first day solo I was sent out of terminal in a small snow storm, although it felt like the storm of the century to me. I think you will benift from starting out in the winter months. You will be much more cautious and focused on what you are doing. Just get in line and keep plenty of following distance. If you dont feel comfortable stop and wait it out. good luck

You're going to have to learn to drive in the snow eventually. Better to learn before you develope your bad habits.
Chinatown, Skydivedavec and lcfd15 Thank this.
