Ive had my class a's for 8 years now, and have not put them to work as I should. I obtained them with government municipal county job, in water construction division, operating tandem dump trucks for material hauling, low boy flat bed transporting heavy equipment, standard air brake crew truck with 3 ft trailer hauling excavation equipment the whole rig equals 53 ft as an 18 wheeler would. Our company does not provide any sort of document detailing the hours, or history of operating commercial vehicles or driving other than having the license themselves. We stay within our county limits of highway, and inner city road districts, interstates for quick access at certain circumstances. From what I've learned is that having a cdl is not enough, but the proof of experience document wise, and driving is what brings you in the door. Im certain after researching average driver salaries that its worth a try to leave were I am currently under paid while possessing a clean MVR and CDL A, for a better income. I run excavations equipment, drive commercial trucks, perform labor in hazardous trenching and sewer waste water areas, water mains, road repair, etc., and bring home $800 biweekly. Yep thats it.. I've gotten advice from friends that drive fuel delivery trucks too get my endorsement and apply for local fuel tankers.....which I plan to do asap here in atlanta, GA. Any advice from one who knows or has been through the starting steps as I am trying to get pass would help alot!!! Thanx

Not to sound like a jerk but you just put in some apps. Unless you want specific company recommendations I don't know what else to say, some will say no but some will say yes.

Attend a good CDL school then go right in to a $60K+ tanker job. New drivers do it every day.
Atlanta is a good location for good paying tanker jobs, mainly since Savannah is so close. The major players haul chemicals out of Savannah. CDL schools are cheap in Georgia, especially at community colleges. Georgia has the Hope Grant which pays for CDL school using lottery proceeds.

Call a Schneider Bulk recruiter; Schneider may pay for CDL school and put you right in their tanker division if you agree to work there 12 months. Pretty good deal.

Here's some companies that may hire you right out of community college or private CDL school:

    SVTN
    Superior Carriers
    CTL Transportation
    Tidewater Transit
    Trimac Transportation

One driver posted the other day that Florida Rock & Tank just hired him right out of CDL school. Their website has you need 1 yr. experience, but that must have changed. They have a terminal in Atlanta.

Millis Transfer has CDL school in Cartersville and all you need is $500.00 for that. It's dry van, but just another option. That's a $50K per year job.
