Hi, new guy here. I am 27 currently residing in southern Illinois. I have no criminal history, and my driving record for the past 7 years is spotless; not even a seatbelt ticket. But before then, from when I got my license to Jan 08 I had a few fender benders, some my fault, a couple not. Would anyone want to hire me? A former coworker who used to be a trucker said it wouldn't be too big a problem, but I'd like more opinions. I already know from doing some research that a pre hire is no guarantee, and I guess I'm afraid I'll go to orientation somewhere and get sent home if they look further back in my driving record than they do for the pre hire.
Wannabe; not the best driving record

Lol. If you're record is spotless for the last 7 years, with no criminal convictions, I'd say you're totally ok. There's gonna be guys a lot worse than you, lol. Prime Inc, Millis and Swift all hire in Southern Illinois and have good training programs. Good luck to you and let us know how it goes!Alec Trevelyan Thanks this. -
You should be okay, some companies only look three years into the past. I would say stay away from Swift, Prime would be the better option.

Your friend is correct; it won't be a problem. Most companies aren't concerned about tickets that are over 3 -5 yrs. old unless it alcohol or drug related, and then it's still no problem with many companies.
Are you going to a private CDL school or trucking company CDL school? -
A few fender benders some your fault some not so you were a careless driver nd you started to act like an adult nd get your sht together when you turned 20 years old.
Chinatown Thanks this. -
Just don't lie on the application and you will be fine.

What concerns me is the driving habits that led to the citations. "Mistakes" and poor basic driving skills in a car or pickup are amplified in a 70-foot, 80,000 pound combination commercial vehicle. And the results are much more noticeable.

You're fine. 7 years ago was a long time and you've grown up since then. Just ignore the inevitable posts you'll get concerning how terrible of a driver you are and how you should go hide in a cave for the rest of your life.
Go to a private driving school if you can so you're not committed to a single company through a sponsored school.Danvitt and Alec Trevelyan Thank this. -
Just starting out, they only want last 3yrs...something 7 yrs ago as far as driving record they won't be worried about that.
