I think what the OP is saying since team drivers get paid all miles, they should make half what a solo driver makes as far as cpm goes. But companies pay less than half.

Drivers get paid by the mile so they can control the pay. Then when it comes to team driving, they'll adjust the pay to control it also. Nobody wants you making too much. They have to maintain control of their percentage of profit.

The main thing about team is you get the longer runs and are rolling more and can make a little more. You can do that as a solo also. My last two companies the majority of my loads were better than 1000 mile runs.

Some like the companionship, some like the little extra money. I could care less for it. You work hard enough as it is. You have to get out of the truck some and you do have to trust the other person.

One truck gets paid 35cpm for every dispatched mile, the other gets paid 50cpm for every dispatched mile.

    Let's break it down right:

    A solo runs 3,000 miles for 35cpm: $1,050 gross.

A team truck runs twice that, 6,000 miles for 50cpm: $3,000 gross, split evenly between the two drivers. Each driver gets $1,500.

Each team member is being paid for all of the miles, whether he drove them or not. A solo only gets paid for his own miles. A solo does not get paid to sleep. A team member does...because while that team member is sleeping, the truck is still moving.

Looked at another way, the miles are split evenly between the team members and each member is given 50cpm for his half of the miles.

It is obvious to me, the team is paid a higher rate.

    *Male pronoun used for simplicity.

Injun nailed it pretty well. As long as the miles stay up you will make more as a team.

HMMMMM $.50 a mile for teams? Every Advertisement and web site I have looked at today for this thread, I am NOT seeing any $.50 for teams. In fact the only $.50 is with Heartland and they have had that for a few years now not to mention that's SOLO pay! I see some Bull Spit split $.32 a mile and that is an across the board average that I see. I have seen a few at $.22! No sheet! Twenty two cents per mile and fools are flocking onto those? I'd ride a freaking donkey with a wagon before I would pick up their key for their truck! I made that back in the late 70s as a SOLO!

Who are these companies that pay teams better than a solo driver in CPM pay? I really want the name of that fifty center! OR, any that pay better than $.35 CPM! Maybe TTR should start a new locked thread that shows team pay!

As far as I'm concerned I have a problem sleeping with someone else driving. Not to mention the accidents with team members several dead in the sleeper after a bad accident and quiet a few injuries. I had to take the hook into PA down off I78 to pick up a company truck that hit a trailer that was dropped on the shoulder. The drivers wife was in the sleeper without the net and when he hit she took out the shifting tower and actually broke the dash! The last time I saw her husband she was still in a wheel chair paralyzed from the waist down! That was the end of me training! I won't even tell you about the critter team that hit a bridge east of Flag about 5 years ago! Critter never bothered to put a cross up for the husband and wife! The danger of dying because your partner screwed the pooch does not equeal the pay!

Nope. Unless the pay is equivalent to solo drivers per mile pay they can pretty much stuff that cheap and embarrassing crapola they call pay!

I want good sleep not a freaking bouncy keep me awake job!

If they take it for that low it's their own fault. Two months into my career I was making .37 split, which wasn't spectacular, but it was better than .25 the solo guys got. I brought home significantly more money than the guys that went through training at the same time as me and went solo.

Teaming doesn't work for a majority of people. I personally like it, but I team with my best friend when I am running team so it's a bit different than for most people. We had a lot of good times on the road together.

I dont know anything about freighthaulers but as far as private carrires the pay is above .50 cpm look into cryogenic companies ( Linde,Air Products,Praxair,Airgas) we do not run teams out of my terminal anymore but if we would start one up I think the pay is .5475 cpm plus double pay split anytime truck has to be shut off ex. fueling , loading or anytime heat or A/C can not be opperated plus meal pay...private carries pay great but its a rough way to make a living...at times trips are short, multiple stops pushed to max hours ..one driver normally showers while loading and other showers during next load..you are expected to be moving.loading or unloading 23 hours out of 24...its a rough life but the money is unlimited...cryogenic teams teams can make 80-95+k per driver a year but the burnout rate is high...I dont miss it at all....I can sleep way better in a Holiday Inn than i can in a freightliner rolling up and down the road..

I would figured team pay also saves a ton of cash for the companies. I mean two solos could get the same mileage as one team can. But requires only one truck.

It boils down to equipment utilization and overall productivity. A team truck doesn't have to sit for 10 hours and either idle or use an APU.

The key to a successful career in team operations is a good co-driver. I ran teams in Foodservice and was fortunate to have a couple of long term veterans over the 11 years I did it. When I was up North, I trusted my co-driver in the middle of a blizzard many times over. Went right to sleep.

On the days I had to go out with a newbie, or a cowboy, I got absolutely no rest, because I didn't either trust him or the driving/shifting/braking was so atrocious I was getting tossed all over the place.

I would just love to know what company you work for! Because Id love to find a company that pays teams more than solo drivers! The company I drive for now pays the solos .42 a mile and teams like myself split .50 a mile. We average $100 more a week than the solos and that's joint because we're a husband and wife team. How is that fare average solo pay per week is $1000 as a team we're only bringing in $1100!!!
