When I was in the Army, we would always send the new guy for things that didn't exist.... to name a few:

    100MPH tape
    High Speed Missile Wax
    PRC E8
    Cable Stretcher
Non sparking, right handed torque wrench
    Chemlite batteries
    Grid Squares
    Hand held bullet launcher
    Squelch grease

What kinds of things would company trainers try to pull to send the rookie on a goose chase?

While in a pick-up lot, tell rookie to go find trlr. 10011, when it is actually trlr. 11001. When they find 11001, say "no, that's not the one". That may warp their mind for a minute or two.

    Blinker fluid

When I was an apprentice in the carpenters union, first job, 18 years old, the guys sent me for toe nails....

When I was painting, we would always sent the new guy to the van for a bucket of steam....

pattyj, Kindle and simpleman78 Thank this.

Have him go see if the spark plugs you ordered for the big truck have come into the shop yet.

One of my trainers told me to go see if the shop has a gallon of blinker fluid. Then when I was at Gateway a builder who was always joking told me to go get a cpu stretcher. You could never tell if he was serious or not because he always kept a straight face.I could have killed him having me walk all over the plant looking for a cpu stretcher.

Blinker fluid is a food one.

Have him open the doors on the trailer. Before he does, fire up a cigarette and inform hin the teailer is full of sailboat fuel. Watched a Stevens instructor do that to a class. None of those wimps would open the trailer doors.
