    NTB trucking Grand Rapids MI

Anyone know anything about NTB trucking up in Grand Rapids Mi I'm looking at applying but quite honestly never seen there trucks on the road...wondering what pay was like, whether or not they have an OTR fleet or not. I found their add in the Kalamazoo Gazzett so if you have any info on NTB trucking I'd greatly appreciate it thanks.

I know they run an absolute ton of Meijer loads, other than that not much else. I think they're a regional hauler not too far beyond MI. I can tell you I've never personally seen an NTB tractor below IR's 80/90, and mostly in central MI(Kalamazoo, Lansing, Ann Arbor.)

I finish Baker in June and have NTB on my list.

Pretty much every company in a 1 hour radius of Flint is on my list...

NTB runs pretty much in a 5 state area: MI, OH, IN, IL and KY. But I saw one of their trucks last week WB on I-80 in NJ. They haul mainly D/H loads to Meijer DCs.

I drove for NTB for over 8 years. They are mostly regional and are classified as a shorthaul operation although they do run as far south as Texas.

I think their pay is a little on the low side as it caps out at .40 cpm. But they do pay detention, breakdown, etc and pay extra for driving on the weekends.

They do a lot of deliveries to Meijer and Target stores but most of those loads are drop and hook.

You do get two days off a week which is a minimum of 48 hours. Because they run 24/7, your days off may be during the week but they will be consecutive.

Since it's been around 5 years since I last drove for them (I retired), I really don't know who all they carry for. When I was with them, they didn't have the Target account.

One other thing is you must live within one hour drive time of their terminal or drop lots.

Check them out at http://www.ntbtrk.com. If interested, give them a call.

    ISS rating for NTB

I have been under the impression that Michigan-based NTB is a good trucking company to drive for. One can find very little in the way of negative comments about the company on this site.

But I just checked the stats for NTB on...

    http://ai.fmcsa.dot.gov/

...and NTB's ISS number is 94, meaning (as I understand it) that DOT personnel are recommended to inspect these trucks when they pull into weigh stations.

So my question is, if NTB is a good company to work for, why is ISS rating so high? Even Swift's is lower (74).

Inspection Selective Systems(ISS) is just a software program that DOT inspecters have on their computers to access a carriers compliance with the regulations. This software doesn't address a specfic vehicle or driver, just it's rating as a whole. So,NTB may be a great company to work for.The drivers may be up to par with their license requirements, logs and medical certifications. The equipment they drive may be well maintained but their rating may be lower by failing to report to the agencies in a timely fashion how they internally keep records on drivers and equipment and business related data.Swift,as a larger company, proabaly has a full room of people to deal with compliance, where NTB,as a smaller company may not. So,again, the rating grade is not just about driver OOS violations or OOS equipment violations. It could just be lax reporting or failure to keep it's books in order.Last thing,NTB as a smaller carrier, may show very few or no roadside inspections in previous years, relative to size,DOT likes to do inspections when it comes to this.As a driver the only thing you have to do is keep your licence, hos and medical card up to date,Your equipment?Do a good pre trip.Make sure bills of lading are in order.Put it out of service before the DOT does if you feel somethings not right.Your company might not be in compliance but at least you will.

year and a half with NTB....

Well< I just thought I would give a progress report now that I have some time with NTB. over all they are not a bad company to work for, they know your name, I have got consistant miles, the bennies are better then OK, and have met some really good people here... best thing for me is my home terminal is 15-20 minutes from my house, unlike when I was OTR and had to go to Dayton OH or Indianapolis.... I like the 5 day work week, it took some getting use to, the whole driving nights thing, but now when I drive in the day light I really notice the difference and like driving nights better and not dealing with the traffic/rush hours... I am making really good money for 5 days a week, and it is consistant again like the miles. had some sick time for a foot problem, had to get it cleared to go back out of course, but I got a phone call the 1st day I was home from the company chaplin as I was coming back from my doctors, just to see if I was ok and wishing me a speedy recovery, no where I have ever worked inside or outside of the industry has ever done that! the slip seating thing still bugs me, I can go 2-6 weeks without being in my assigned truck, and I had to get a routine down for packing my stuff to go out and getting back off the truck, so I didn't forget stuff in my rush to get home. sometimes you be asked in the middle of the week to switch out of a truck so the assigned driver can have his truck back, which can be a bummer when you having a good week, then a bump get thrown your way... but if you deal with it a roll on it that, just a bump in the road! on a 1 to 10 scale I rate my experience so far as a 7 out of 10 on the good side, glad I made the switch to a decent company where I am more then a number or just meat in the seat...

    NTB

Well NTB hired me right outta school at 21, so ill give em that. Ive been with them for about 6 months. And ive had good and bad expierences with them. Its all shorthaul ( all runs done in one day or less ) which i dont mind. Mostly drop and hook. They pay bonus shorthaul miles, d time, breakdown time, weekend bonus. I drive nights which is fine. Their trainers are excellent. Mostly meijer frieght, dry box and reefer only. My only complaint is some of the dispatchers can be... well.. less than inteligent.. on occasion, to put it nicley.
