I have a felony that is almost 4 years old. I have a speeding ticket that will be 3 years old come june when I graduate. Recruiters are ####### liars. Don't believe a word they say, you're just another number to them. Trucking is not a second chance industry, if you have a felony that's <10 years old, you're going to get just as frustrated as me and hopefully you don't spend the money getting your CDL. Sadly I thought I might have a shot at getting on my feet at a relatively young age, 23, and all the truckers I have spoken too are amazing people I really wish I could have gotten involved. Unfortunately I've exhausted all my venues for an honest job. I have a meeting with the career services director as well as the director of admissions tomorrow morning, they said they are going to sit down with me and call quite a few companies and if I still have no real response I can luckily get out of the entire thing for free. I have spent 4.5 months of my life commuting 350 miles each weekend and paying ridiculous amounts in tolls and gas, now it's all in vain. Please think deeper about the big picture before getting involved. To everyone on this board that gave advice, or resistancethank you haha. Stay safe everyone
God bless.
Well I'm quitting school tomorrow, if you're considering trucking read this

I am very sorry to hear about your dead ends. I wouldn't call trucking a second-chance industry though. You are entrusted with a deadly weapon, and very valuable cargo on a daily basis. I can understand why a company wouldn't be eager to give someone a second chance until they had reason to believe that a person really was on the straight and narrow.

Opi,
Good luck and best wishes for you in the future. Hopefully things will turn for the better for you.
And while you may think many of us were being rude, or complete ###holes to you in your earlier post. We were mearly speaking the truth.
And attempting to save you some money AND grief. All of us (or at least most) have had to work the system from time to time. It sucks, is all I have to add. -

Keep us posted on what you wind up doing. Good luck! -
Good luck to you in what ever career you find. If trucking is what you really want to do, keep trying or try again after the 10 years is up. Just make sure you keep your driving record good in the mean time.
Here's a secret.... Do you know how to tell when a Recruiter is lying? Their mouth is moving.
-
Haha, I realized recruiters are like horrible used car salesman, wish I had known that before meeting them. Oh well. -
They'll round up the wagons on you.
Ohhh......I forgot, you don't work for CFI/Conway. -
I dont want to pry into your personal business but i know a couple of guys with felonies that drive trucks otr. I hear that if its related to violence or grand theft they wont take you, but if its one of the less serious felonies you got a shot. Remember this - anyone on this board could have been in your shoes if there was a cop in the right place at the right time. We all have a past and we all have made mistakes. The important thing is that you dont let one mistake define your life, you can change and there are people out there who will give you a chance. Keep knocking on doors, eventually the right one will open. Keep your head up and follow through with your CDL. Even if you end up delivering construction materials for a mom n pop outfit its a honest job.
P.S. If there is anyone out there that is driving and has a felony give this guy a word of encouragement and point him in the direction of a company that will give him a chance.
