    Are you kidding..........

Just so everyone can understand why I said this...........

    I picked up a load 22,000lbs.

Only had 10 skids..........the idiots loaded all 10 skids up front to the bulk head.........drive axles over weight by 2,000 some odd pounds.......slid tandems all the way forward..........still 450lbs over on the drives......

ANY QUESTIONS..........HAD TO GO BACK AND BE RELOADED.....:biggrin_25513:

LOST 4 1/2 HOURS TOTAL WITH THIS MESS.........

You must be one unlucky dude. Why didn't you check the way it was loaded? Even if a trailer has a seal on it I break them to check the load. That's why I used to carry the company seals. After all you are responsible for the way the truck is loaded.

This is not about luck.............I knew this was going to go bad........

OK so let's start over.......This thread is about a person (newbie) saking about scaling loads..........with all due respect to teh obviously experienced drivers giving advice, you it is my opinion the the advice should be given in the way that best protects the new driver.
All of the experienced drivers did not start out knowing when and how to scale their loads.........IE after knowing how much the truck weghs against the load that is supposed to be on the trailer and the flat beds being loaded in front of you etc.

You all learned this from time/trial and error. Now if you all want to take the responsibility under any and all circumstances to tell a new driver that he does not need to scale unless he has 20-30-35-40k on his trailer and he has an axle overwieght due to someone elses fault than, I supposed you should offer to pay any over weight fines he receives.

This entire thread and question is for the new driver to learn, but also if using bad advice will cost him time and money.

He will in time learn his boundaries but also learning short cuts from others that are not always correct can cost him and others.

PS..........And for gashauler..........that is why I scaled the load though because I wouldn't know that the load was overweight on the axles until it was scaled. This situation is not about unlucky...........if I had followed some of the advice as given above and had gotten stopped I would have received the violation.........This example though extremely rare is still the same cost of fine whether first time or 50th time..........:biggrin_2558:

To finish this thought to appearantly make clear............I am not complaining about loss time in the big picture. Only in this instance when placing and the affect of other people can have on your life and job.
I am glad for you that you never had this situation arise in your many years, but this is why someone is asking for advice and why others give it based on their experiences.
Their are others reading here that do not post and just read. Their are people who will take every bit of advice given no matter how right or wrong and use it. We should give responses in a responsible manner that protects the person asking from making bad decissions on the information we give.

You're right. Go scale every load.

Well actually you're not right. What you should be telling every driver is not to scale every load but to CHECK every load as required by law and scale the load if he or she feels they need to. Our suggestion is just that.

You went ahead and took your load without checking it so it cost you some time. Scaling the load would not have prevented that, only checking it would have. I suggest to EVERY DRIVER that they carry in the truck the FMCSR green pocketbook. I've found it much easier than going online plus if you need to show (which I have) an inspector a rule you can. That can save you alot of time and headaches.
