Finally! I started CDL school today with Carolina Trucking Academy in Raleigh, NC. And what a great day it was! I must say, the staff there is very personable and hospitable. Quite accomodating...
Came to find out I was the only one starting this week, so needless to say the teacher/student ratio will be low..... hehehehehe. Guess there is a decent chance I will graduate at the top of my class, huh?
Got through all of my computer testing for the prep for the permit and I am told I did well enough that I will be going to the DMV tomorrow morning to test for my CDL permit. SO I might actual be a card-carrying member come lunch time tomorrow.
Anyway, thank you EVERYBODY for your kind words, thoughts and advice. I will stay in touch and keep posts of my progress as the days progress.
Finally Started School!

Glad to hear it! Guess you'll also get plenty of seat time and backing practice too.
ScooterDawg Thanks this. -
Scooter,
Congrats and good luck! I just finished school with Sage in Yadkinville and go for my road test this Thursday. Barring anything disastrous, I hope to have my license in hand on Thursday afternoon and start orientation with my carrier on the 18th.

Hey All!
Well I got to school and was sent down to the DMV around 8am to take my permit test. After waiting for what seemed to be FOREVER!!!!!!!!!, I finally ponied up to the computer and got started. Wasn't near as tricky as I had expected. I passed, got to pose for my picture (was really hard to get "that grin" off my face, but I managed), and headed back to school. So now I have my CDL-A Permit!!!!! (can I get a WooHoo!!!?) The rest of the morning was spent watching videos about the various Eaton Fuller Transmissions, ways to become disqualified for possessing a CDL, and winter driving.
After lunch, I was put in a truck along with 3 other students (that was a HUGE surprise being it was my second day), and got to observe for 5 hours. I sort of felt sorry for the guy because he was having a lot of trouble shifting, braking and following directions.
I had actually thought (during the ride) that I could make the narration of the ride out to be a symphony of hilarious anecdotes for my post tonight, but I really felt sorry for the guy. He had been there for a couple weeks and just had a bad day. After we got out of the truck, I just walked up to him (we had not even met yet), patted him on the back of the shoulder and told him "Tomorrow's gonna be another day, man.". He sorta grinned and nodded his head.
So I am going to refrain from humor at his expense. Besides, having not done it myself, that would be sort of crappy. And after all, with some of the characters going to this school, I am sure SOMETHING will happen that I will get to play with.
No telling what tomorrow's going to bring, but I will let you know when I get home.
As always, thank you everyone for your words and kindness. I greatly appreciate it! -
Well I would like to know bout this school, that will employ someone who is unemployed and not turn you down cause of credit with the economy is shot as it is, who credit is perfect now, why would you turn down somebody who wants to learn and work to support thier family and kids ! Is this world so consumed by Greed that the ones who want to learn something new have to suffer when they can't even afford the money to go to school to make more money and feel like somebody again. The only thing you could possibly afford to live on today is living in a Truck or an RV, thats if they let you ! You have to pass the standards, the codes in order for you to make a change in your life and the prices to get an education is crazy these days when you want to go back to school. What ever happened to paying reasonable prices for things that matter that you needed and not living on credit. Well enough of my venting, I hope to find a school for my husband and I to get into and if anyone has their kids with them on the road to, give me the 411, please !

Anyway, I like the school, the people are good, and I have no complaints.
