You can be "on duty" or "considered" on duty for 24 hours in a row as long as you haven't driven? But on duty doesn't mean you get payed right? You only get payed when you actually are driving? Sorry, I probably sound pretty stupid. But if the shoe fits!!

Ok, for example, I have my 14 hours. So even though I am still working doing a post-trip or waiting for them to unload etc. I can log that in as on-duty and be paid for it as well? Thanks CA

if you are getting paid by the mile, you will probably not get any pay for being on duty, exception would be pay for specific actions, like performing inspections, tarping, etc. This is called accessorial pay. You try to minimize the amount of time spent on duty not driving because it mostly doesn't get paid and it counts against the 70 hours in 8 days that you would have available for being on duty and still able to drive.
Additional work after the 14 hours depletes the 70 hours faster, and usually for no pay. -

Denise, if you're working you must log it as on duty not driving even if you don't get detention pay.
The best explanation I've heard about logging as on duty not driving vs off duty or sleeper when you're in the truck but not driving is this: if you can leave the truck and go fishing it's not on duty not driving. However if you can't leave the truck then it's on duty. -
