So there I was - driving home from work, northbound I95, around the 90 mile marker, last Monday, January 13th, around 5pm. I was in the left lane, patiently waiting at a respectful distance, for a tractor-trailer in front of me to pass the slightly slower tractor-trailer on the right. A third semi comes flying past me on my right. I'm thinking, "oh, no, he's not." But, "oh, yes he is." (I would have picked up on it much quicker from a four-wheeler, but it surprised me coming from a "professional."). Anyway, he decides that my safe following distance is just enough room to slide his 18 wheels into, regardless of how close it comes my front bumper. Of course, he immediately has to hit his brakes since the semi in front of him is moving slower than he is (go figure). Needless to say, this causes a chain reaction for me and everyone else behind me. Don't know who the driver was, but I had plenty of time to notice the huge letters spelling S-W-I-F-T on the back of his trailer.

OK, before you get upset, let me add that I don't share this because I'm pissed off at truckers. On the contrary! This really made me appreciate how professional the vast majority of truck drivers are. A tractor-trailer driven like a crazed lunatic is at the wheel is a very scary thing. Much scarier than a four wheeler pulling the same maneuver. It's like the difference between a .22 and a rocket launcher.

So, to all you truckers out there who drive like you care....THANK YOU!!!

On behalf of the rest of us, let me apologize. If it were me I'd immediately grab my phone and snap a picture of his trailer to report him. And not to his company, the state police. Aggressive driving like that is well deserving of a level 1 roadside inspection and any CSA points that follow.

I am really even more surprised that a Swift was able to pass folks. Must have been a "lease" driver or something.

That's one good thing about having a dash cam; film it and send it to the trucking company safety department.

I had to laugh at your analogy with the .22 vs rocket launcher, but must say... that is "spot on" true!
I've had my share of run-ins with those type of drivers, and believe me, it makes us just as furious to see them drive with such disregard for safety and other motorists.
I always try to get their truck info and report them immediately to both state police & their trucking company.

It's good knowing you don't throw all truckers in the same batch as this Swift unprofessional yahoo demonstrated.
