| Unfortunately much of what is on the CB these days is trash, I generally do not even use mine unless I have to. As for passing, sometimes guys just do not gauge their speed for passing. With trucks governed at different speeds sometimes it get's crazy. A guy governed and running at 60 will try and pass someone running 59 while going on flat terrain, it's nuts. Yes, running side by side is dangerous at times, but no more than any other aspect of driving a rig.

| The industry has changed and unfortunately you have some "hot rod" drivers that riding the bumper with a mike in hand is the way to be (so they think). Professional drivers (seasoned and new) treat the CB as a tool and don't waste their time with such a stupid activity like you described. The trucks taking forever to pass again plays into professional driving. A good driver keeps his space and doesn't block traffic. He or she is very defensive with their driving habits. I blame the CDL schools today that rush the students through the course with only one objective along with the bottom feeding companies that only want to fill the seat to make a profit at any cost. The schools only care about the student obtaining the CDL and out the door they go. There's no teaching of defensive driving and taking care of the equipment along with pride in one's work habits. There are of course some that still teach professionalism but they are hard to find and you won't find that in company sponsored schools. So what happens is a driver that has a great attitude has either had some background in driving (maybe a family memeber) or he or she is taught by a driver that cares about the profession. They'll stick it out and become good drivers but you won't see them unless you're looking. You'll only see the "hot rod" drivers that think the object of trucking is getting from point A to point B as fast as possible. Sorry for those drivers but tip your hat to the professional. |

| From my standpoint a CB is just about worthless anymore, i use it but keep it squelched out to the point you just about have to be on top of me to come in. As far as the race issue, it's everywhere, so please don't hang a racist tag on all truckers. Those same comments can be heard at a construction site or a local bar, they're just not broacasted for everyone to hear like a trucker on a CB. As far as the driving goes i think GasHauler pretty much summed it up. |

| [quote=bullhaulerswife;494357]Not sure that you know this, but many home bodys have base CB's in their houses as well. There are several in our area, and you can't tell the difference between the truckers and the base radios. So, unfortunately, there is no way to pin point that it actually was truckers saying anything you heard. LOL There are racists in every occupation, you just don't overhear the conversations. [Bullhaulerswife brings up a very good point. WhenI was little we went on vacation every year, Cape Ann or Cape Cod, my father always had a cb on the whole way down and back, he use to love to harrase the Army caravans on the thruway, as they went by, he was an airforce guy, he would sing Army songs to them and everything. They could have easily thought it was coming from a trucker? ![]()

| I usually have a quick comeback for people that are busting out the racial remarks on the CB, and I am white. I don't see any reason racists should exist in this society, it is childish and not constructive for the nation. Though I will be the first to say we need to throw out all illegal aliens in this country. The work will get done without them. Just the company's that hire them will have to start paying a fair wage. I am looking forward to the day when all the races are so blended together that you cannot tell one from the other, though I know I will not live to see it. I use my CB some, though I usually have it squelched up to the point you have to be within a mile of me for me to hear it. Bear reports are nice at times, though my truck is governed so low I am usually not speeding. I like to know so I can be ready for the reaction of the 4 wheelers when they see them. Around truck stops and city's I usually keep it off. |

| I'm sorry you had to listen to all that trash. and that is what it is TRASH. Most people using the CB don't think that anyone is listening, Or is it that they don't care. I have to the most part gotten out of CB. The trash is getting worse every year. After 30 years I had all I could stand. I got my ham license, I only wish I had gotten it earlier, radio was fun again and still is today.
