Not really, but it feels like it. I just wanted to know if I was the only one who feels like it, or if other truckers are also this way.

I put my truck in the shop to have the (insert randomly vague, oddly named, "non-essential", but pain not to have, part) replaced. Dispatcher calls me today and says "your truck is dead". Wiring harness is fried. Gonna pull you out of it and put you in a loaner (same kind) for a month and then when we get the new Freightliners in next month, we will move you to one of those permanently.

Here's the thing though....We are the only ones to have ever been in this Pete. Was a 13, only had transit miles on it. Less than 500 when we got it. We have put near 200,000 miles on it since we got it last summer.

Its "my" truck, its "my" home and I am sad to have to come out of it. I feel like I'm being evicted from my apartment with no notice. Lol. We had one before that truck too, but we blew it up at 35k ;) So, this is all we have driven. I am attached to it and know its various quirks.

Plus, I didn't much care for the one Freightliner that I have driven...However, it was older, high milage and an automatic. Drove it for a week in training. Hated it. Freightshaker indeed.

Finally...permit me to wave my "rookie" flag loudly and proudly. There is something to be said about driving a Peterbilt...its iconic. EVEN IF ITS NOT THE SAME AS THEY USED TO BE. I know this, but still. A Pete is a Pete and I love being able to say "I drive a Peterbilt"
Specially to those who don't know I am a truck driver, the looks on their faces kill me every time. :)
A Pete is iconic, no matter what year it is.

Point being, do y'all get attached to your trucks?

Sure, get attached to some degree, but I always keep it in perspective, it's not my truck, it belongs to the company. I'm just in it for the paycheck.

I had an older driver few years back , kept his truck MINT , came time to retire his truck and give him a brand new one , he told me NO THANKS , and quit.

Week later he came in with a check to see if he could buy his Old Truck , we made a deal and hired him back as an O/O , he drove it until he retired and the truck is parked in his heated shop as it retired as well.

I have never been in the same truck long enough to get attached. Every time I go home, boss man makes me clear her out and turn her in. I've been in at least 15 trucks in the last year and a half.
