The amount of bad information in this thread is amazing. Here are some facts:
- JHT/Autotruck and TruckMovers/IronTiger are competitors, totally separate entities, owned by competing, unrelated interests. It's laughable that folks think that IronTiger is just another JHT company. IronTiger contracts through TruckMovers -- and TruckMovers WON the Volvo contract AWAY from JHT. Just as TruckMovers WON the Navistar contract away from JHT.
- TruckMovers/IronTiger HAS hired several former/displaced JHT/Autotruck drivers, but doesn't hire them all (for obvious reasons). TruckMovers has absolutely no obligation to hire sub-par drivers that happen to have worked for a competitor.
- TruckMovers outperforms JHT in every way. Just ask Volvo or (now) Navistar.
- John Hummel once worked for JHT. He now works as a manager (not an owner) for TruckMovers. Some folks work for Walmart and later in life work for Target. Same concept here. John has no allegiance to JHT and has worked at TruckMovers for over five years. John was not hired away from JHT by TruckMovers. He had already left JHT and was working in another industry for some time when TruckMovers hired him.
Sounds like this entire thread was created by a former JHT driver that simply wasn't offered a job when JHT lost a contract to TruckMovers. That's not TruckMovers' fault. Get your facts straight before leading hard-working TruckMovers drivers astray.Last edited: Aug 17, 2011

Wow, Strickly. You've been a member on these boards for less than a month and you're questioning my one post? Well, here's another. Once again, you've added to the misinformation on this thread by posting nothing factual.
I've been doing driveaway work for longer than you've been trucking (most of my nearly 20 years vs. 7 of your 14, it appears). Here are the facts regarding the companies you've spewed out, for the truckers that are considering driveaway work.
IronTiger, TruckMovers, Coldiron, Bennett, Quality, Apollo, Mamo, etc (the list goes on) all COMPETE with JHT/ATT. Only Unimark and Active (from your list) are JHT/ATT-owned companies. Talk to anyone that has actually worked for non-JHT/ATT companies over the years and you'll know the truth.
Or, feel free to contact each individually. Some quick Googling found the following. Give any of the non-ATT companies a call and ask them their relationship with JHT/ATT. They might laugh when they hear that drivers think all of these companies are under the ATT/JHT umbrella. Yes, all driveaway companies haul the same trucks (there are only a limited set of trucks in the universe), but it's nonsense to think the majority of driveaway companies aren't in direct competition with each other:

Sounds like you once did driveaway work and didn't figure out the facts on the players involved, or the companies you worked for (I'm sure you are an ex-JHT/ATT driver and never worked for Bennett or Quality or TruckMovers). Quality Drive Away is the largest drive away company with the most driver.
Worked 6 Months there on average my take home after travel expenses was 300 to 600 per week. If there was multiple vehicles going the same direction and someone had a tow car, I made 1200.
Its the most dangerous job Ive ever done that includes working on hazardous waste sites and many other lines of work!
You need to be very street wise think out of the box!
You are constantly on foot left on your own after delivering a vehicle, living out of a carry on suitcase!
Flights, greyhound, taxis, public transsportation and dangerous places all the time in this business! You have to think way outside the box to figure out how your gonna get to your naxt place the fastest and cheapest!
I would not recommend this line of work for anyone!

Strickly -- I'd say the bosses at JHT vs. TruckMovers have better things to do with their time than argue who is who out on these boards. It's a shame, because the misinformation you're spewing out here is beyond ridiculous.
Here's the number for JHT's corporate headquarters - (800) 558-3271. Give them a call and ask them if they have any affiliation with the company that replaced them (TruckMovers) on both the Volvo/Mack and Navistar contracts.
Here's TruckMovers' corporate headquarters' number - (816) 861-5444. Give them a call and ask them if TruckMovers/IronTiger is in any way associated with JHT/ATT.
Evidently you haven't taken the time to do any research on the subject, but prefer to continue to badmouth TruckMovers/IronTiger, a company you never worked for, and a company that is in no way associated with the company you did work for. TruckMovers is the new game in town -- not a new flavor of the old monopoly.

It sounds to me like all these truck transport co. are crooks. Is this true? I was thinking about putting applications in with some of these places. Are there any good ones?

Being that I lived and worked in Virginia for many years the first thing you should have done is file with the Virginia employment commission when they first told you that, second was to show up every week for work and have them sign the paper saying that no work was available.

Unimark Auto Truck Truck Movers Active and 8 other companies are 1 in the same owned by atc mother company. they are all con artist in one shape or another. you end up paying to do there contracted work. starts with a escro bond of 1500-3000 they take out of ur pay weekly that never gets returned to you when you leave. then a secondary insurance that is illegal to make maditory for independant contractors company personel is legal. they will mislead you from day one ... like unimark putting on their own web site that they pay .60 mile on singles then when you get to orientation you will sign a contract stating that singles will pay .50 mile then if you choose to continue they will change the pay rates every 3 months. they will tell you they cover everything expense wise even give you a data sheet showing you they re-emburse those expenses but when you cross referrence to the com data break down sheets(pay-stubs) as to cash advances and fuel purchases add and subtract you will find out they have not paid a dime in re-embursements. they will get you in the whole as they call it and then they will keep you there only to rip you off more til you quit. they will dictate to you how you will run. no independant in those companies. I have been with them for a year and a half and have witnessed every possible senario of a company scamming and ripping off their drivers, evading taxes, and tricks to the trade of cheating the contracts. if you have a good record and driving habbits there are a few good legit companies out there to work for but eventually they will do something wrong too nature of that business. im going to seek out a class action lawyer against unimark and their mother company for illegal actions they have committed to me and other drivers over the past 2 yrs i will update on it as i go along.
