Now that summer is approaching fast I thought I better write this thread ASAP for drivers looking at these ag jobs.
Beware of the companies that haul tomatoes and grapes near sacramento and stockton.
I have personally worked for delta transport that also goes by the name of john perez and son located in walnut grove california and Tiger lines located in Lodi California.
Tiger lines in lodi is a decent company if you are new to a class A license.But...Dont expect to make more then $10.00 an hour though there.
The night dispatcher is a jerk, He is a driver for tiger lines during non agriculture times and knows all the trucks and he will make sure to give you the worst truck with no jake brake, no air conditioner, and no adjustable seat. They do have "good trucks" but I rarely got one unless I was assigned to the day shift.
Day shift is allot better, the day shift dispatcher lets you choose what truck you want to drive. Thats about the only good thing I can say about this company, just be prepared to work for $10 an hour and NO OVERTIME! They dont have to pay you overtime even when you work 16 hours a day! I WAS NOT TOLD THIS WHEN I WAS HIRED!
I was spending $25 a day to commute in my personal vehicle and making $75 after taxes on a good day!
Delta Transport AKA Perez and sons in walnut grove California, same old crap but allot worst management, they dont really care about safety at all. Most of there drivers are rejects from other companies that have really bad driving records like DUI'S and or reckless driving convictions.
They pay a little better if you are quick on all your loads because they pay a percentage of every load unlike tiger that pays you $10 an hour for loads that are local. I must say that delta has pretty decent trucks, most are better then tiger lines as they have mostly a peterbilt fleet but you have to deal with the dispatcher during the day and his name begins with V and there is no dispatch at night so if you get a flat tire or redflagged at the weigh station during the night you will be sitting until the morning.
If you can drive and follow there directions expect to make about $14 an hour here but you have to deal with bad dispatch and I had days where I showed up and only had 2 hours work and barely made my gas I spent going out there!
Recap: If you are a new driver and need some experience by all means work for these companies, I have let you all know ahead of time what to expect, I was expecting overtime from tiger lines, if they told me when I got hired there was no overtime I would not have accepted the job! I live 60 miles from them and my pickup gets 13 mile a gallon!
With delta aka perez and sons expect to sit for an hour or two until V decides what load your taking.

I'd be buying a bike and saving a ton in gas and having fun going to work and undergoing therapy when going home!

Dude I totaly agree I drove for delta and the pay was ok but there wer day's I showed up and just sat while V decided on what load I was going to haul. I must say that the equipment was fairly newer pete's. But over all it was not a good experience
