Hi, I am sitting back at home after leaving out with my first trainers truck on Aug 6th, He started calling me at 9:00 A.M. while I was still in class and finshing up my orientation process, So I jump on his truck and he says, He needs me to drive as I have an hour and 10 minutes left on his 70, I told him that wouldn't work as I have been up all day in class and so forth, I was never trained by this guy he would sleep and I would drive and then wash and repeat, We got some good miles but nothing of what I thought training at Prime would be like, They use the trainees as cheap team drivers, After about 9 days on his truck and him sleeping while I drive and vise versa I went to another trainers truck only to be talked down to and belittled because I have a very slight speech impediment where I stutter when I get frusterated or excited, He would never tell me what I was doing wrong while shifting or anything else unless he was pointing his finger at me and in his Georgia drawl "You are on my truck you are going to do things my way", The first trainer would wake up to drive in town or sit and watch me drive and as he did so, I would drive to the location and one incident that I remember very well was him looking in the right side mirror as I went up on the curb with the trailer to swing a u turn in a very small cul-de-sac, He screamed "STOP" I screamed back at him, "Look at where I'm going to pull away from the light pole that you are so concerned that I am going to hit, I'm already pulling away from it" He said well "You scared me" I said "Well you make not such a good trainer if you can't figure out that I am getting away from the pole" The second trainer would log into my log on electronic logs and drive under my ID, Which if I remember right is against DOT regs. FLOWER LOADS SUCK!! DO NOT VOLUNTEER FOR THEM, There is not enough time on them to do them with any accuracy. So we were in OKC unloading a partial trailer of Flowers into the cooler, He was up in the trailer moving the flowers to the tail of the trailer and I would put them on a cart and move them into the cooler, Well he got ahead of me stacking the boxes of flowers up, and so I stated to him "Man you are going to have to either slow down or get down here and help me" He snickered and we went on about the process, He said something about me picking up the pace but it was all in good fun and we went on with life, Well the very next day in ABQ I said that same statement and he comes unglued to the fact that he says "If you want to stay on MY truck you will need to learn to keep your mouth shut, I take my work very seriously and jokes will not be tolerated when I'm working" So I told him when we get close to Phoenix I'm outta here. So here I am wondering what could have been different had I went with a different trainer who was not in it for the $$$. Take Care. TD.

They do the same thing everywhere driver.......some of the trainers are barely out of their own trainers truck and they do it just for the money. The first question I asked my trainer at Werner was how long he had been driving. 10 years was his answer I said great lets go. He asked me why I told very bluntly...if you had said anything less than 5 years I woulda said no and asked for someone with more exp. I dont want a rookie training me. He laughed and said we'd get along great and we did. I still talk to him frequently he's a good freind
truckerdaddy24 and Wedge Thank this. -
some people shouldnt train--the companys should realize that and not just let any warm body do it
there is a program called"train the trainer"--all trainers should have to do ittruckerdaddy24 Thanks this. -
Nevermind. I don't have anything positive to say, so I will just leave it alone.

Why would you think a trainer is not in for the money. This isnt High School or Community College. There is only one reason to be out there, and its the money. I hate to sound harsh. It is not an easy world out there, and maybe this is their style of training. But never think they are out there just to train, That may be important, but it is secondary. To be honest, I would never let a new driver drive my truck.
I wish you a lot of luck, and safe miles.
Larrytruckerdaddy24 and venne Thank this. -
of course trainers do it for the money....but when they dont train you or care about safety we are supposed to say oh well no problem give me a break. If you are going to be a trainer you better be able to train BOTTOM LINE. Sure it's your truck your rules but for crying out loud TEACH the newb so people dont get KILLED!!!!!
otherhalftw, JerrytAZ, Panhandle flash and 6 others Thank this. -
Bummer dude. Sorry to hear of this. I sometimes got the impression that trainees and trainers benefited the company the most as team drivers. I read a nice story in the T/A magazine about a Prime trainer. Not all are the same I'm sure.
Sorry you're having all the problems. What has Prime and you done together to rectify the situation? -
Where's the head cheerleader ??????
ThatTruckerFrom305 Thanks this. -
Sorry to hear about your crap treatment Treydavid-suxs. Did you talk to anyone to let them know you really weren't getting trained but just used as a 'team driver?'
Sad thing is this is NOT the only place where they have people training or orienting that SHOULD NOT be as they don't have the experience, they are not doing it for the right reason and really just make it worse for the newbie! Why do we try to ''kill the new person'' instead of passing our knowledge on to them?Yodler and rocknroll nik Thank this. -
Hey 3David, I'm a little confused. About 6 days ago you posted you fired your first trainer and were about to leave out with your second. So can you give us some details of how Prime reacted to your request for a new trainer and how has training been going with the 2nd one?
