The other half has unfortunately had to deal with that in the past. This was quite a few years ago.

A drunk driver decided to use his trailer as a suicide source... the drunk driver got what he wanted. So yes... other half has been in a fatality accident, however, it was not his fault. He was not cited. He was not "at fault" and it was considered a "non-preventable accident". Kinda hard to prevent an accident when a drunk driver decides to put their car underneath a trailer............ on purpose.. with a suicide note in the vehicle. Other half thought he had just blown a tire. I'm not going to go into details, if you please.......

But as soon as the safety team heard of the accident, they were in the air and down on the ground at the accident scene and at the hospital. That's where other half met someone from the safety team, who eventually became a good and trusted friend over the years. I believe his name was Bob G???? He was the guy who was the safety guy driving the technology trailer around for the past year or so in the Western Division. That man had a heart attack in August of 2008. It was a sad day.

But back to his accident....two days later, CRASH decides to call other halfs parents and asks them how they felt that their son, a truck driver, had killed an innocent driver.......

Six months later, the parents of the deceased tried to sue Werner and my other half for negligence with the encouragement and help of CRASH attorneys. Needless to say, it got thrown out of court.

Years ago, the intersection where that accident happened did not have stop signs or a stop light and was an uncontrolled intersection. Today, it has flashing lights, stop signs, and advance warning of a "stop" light ahead, with a reduced speed zone.

At the beginning of January, they did replace his two steer tires as they were warped, had bowls, and had strips missing out of them.

They also changed two of the eight drive tires, as they were sitting at 0.0 & 0.1. As for the other six, they were sitting at 0.3 & 0.4, and Werner refused to change them. I personally think this is disgusting because the bill for the four new tires was only $30 bucks a tire as Werner has some discount with Bridgestone.

He was told by road breakdown to go directly to a terminal to replace the other tires. His load planner and dispatcher refused.

Three days later, he intentionally went into a terminal, and was refused the six new tires, sitting at 0.3 & 0.4 saying they pass Werner minimums of 0.2.

One day after, he went through a scalehouse in California. Would you believe that the inspector passed the tires, with them sitting at 0.3 & 0.4 and gave him a lecture about how bad the economy is and that companies have to watch their budget. (I was on the phone with him and heard the entire conversation via the bluetooth.)
Steele,
I am confused, as you have mentioned the tire situation many times. When you refer to 0.3, 0.4, etc. are you refering to 32nds? Like 2/32", 3/32" tread depths. Personally I know Werner changes steers at 8/32" or below, and drives at 6/32" or below.

If 0.3 is referring to 3/32", then you husband should have had tires changed miles before, per Gra Gar policy. Policy also says tires cant be within 3/32" difference across one axle. For ex. rear drive can have 10/32", 13/32", 10/32" and 11/32". If you take out say one 10/32" and add a 18/32", it has to be changed to match. Just a FYI next time he needs tires.

Another FYI Werner can be very cheap regarding the battery situation. When a truck comes in for needing 4 batteries or 3 (if it has APU) they will only allow 2 NEW so that means your gettin 1 or 2 USED.

Or if the truck is "too old". Actually happened to me in the Unsprungfield terminal when I got Werners junk pile. November of of 2007. I suspect they has done nothing but get worse Good old GraGar wouldn't change any of them.

FYI,

What Werners policy is, and what Werner actually does are two separate things. He should know after 18 years with them.

Trust me, six out of eight drive tires were at 5/32 and 6/32 and finished at 2/32 and 3/32 and THEY WOULD NOT CHANGE THEM. It took two months, a dozen calls to road breakdown, three trips to Petro and finally a phone call to CLs office to get the issue addressed. Six drive tires were finally replaced and he still has two tires that are sitting at 5/32 and THEY WILL NOT REPLACE THEM.

So please dont tell me what Werner's policy is and that it was my other halfs responsibility to get the tires changed when he complained for over two months, multiple phone calls to road breakdown, multiple stops to Petro per road breakdown, multiple QComm requests, phone calls to Werner, and showing the tires to his LP and dispatchers. I have the pictures with coin tests to prove it.

What GGs policy is, is one thing, and what they really do is another.. WE KNOW THAT FOR A FACT. SO please dont try to say that he should have had them changed, when he did try, went out of his way MANY times and Werner breakdown kept saying no.

Thats why we began a log of everytime someone was requested, tread depths taken at Petro several times, tread depts reported by CA DOT at an inspection station (which were reported as six tires being 2/32 and 3/32 and two tires at 4/32 and 5/32), and pictures taken of the tires.

Additionally, he does currently have 32/32 on one side and 5/32 on the other side across one axle right now, AND THEY WONT CHANGE THE TIRES.

So personally, it does not matter what GG/Werners policy is, they dont follow their own policy. So PLEASE dont tell us what is because Werner's policy is NOT FOLLOWED as we both know from experience. And please, do NOT try to put the responsibility upon him as he did what he was suppose to do FOR TWO MONTHS via calls to RB, dispatch, LP, QComm, stops at Petro per RB, stopping for a courtesy inspection at a CA DOT, requests to go to terminals (which were all denied), and finally calling CLs office. That is NOT a policy being followed... that is being CHEAP, especially when the tires are only $30.

Im sorry, there is NO excuse for not following a policy as you can NOT put a price on safety, especially in the middle of winter in Colorado, Wyoming, Oregon, Washington, California...etc.................. If eight tires costing $240 or six tires costing $180 is worth more to Werner than a drivers life, the general public safety, a shippers goods, and a company's reputation then that is a SAD state of corporate policy............ wait.. what am I saying.. Werner's reputation..... *flush*

He didn't get to 1.8 million miles accident free (and still counting) mostly in LA CA traffic by being a moron, thank you very much.

You need to get out of the garage and get on the road to learn on your own what its like before placing blame and responsibility on a driver. You're just like dispatch... sorry.... but yep.. you POd me and him.

Try a truck that is currently sitting close to 300K that they put an APU on when it was at 100K. He's gonna have that truck till the day he retires in two years..... well.. less than two years now..
