| You're wise already...and that's good Bean, you're wise in that you see more of reality than a lot of folks do. Driving trucks is a great job for a thinker like you. Turn off the C.B. turn off the radio, and just think, brother.

Swift has one of the highest rates of inexperienced drivers on staff, and that is for one simple reason. If they offered jobs that EXPERIENCED drivers wanted, and would keep, then they'd have a staff of mostly EXPERIENCED drivers. Their business model is a poor one. Now that Jerry Moyes is out of the picture, who knows? Things may change for that company. I can tell you one thing that has happened since he was ousted; They're stock is doing better. I have never felt inclined to make fun of people who are new to driving. Yes it can be comical at times watching someone struggle to park or to back into a door. I also understand how frustrating it is from their persepctive as well. They don't know any better. These are people who have high hopes for a new career, and are simply trying to better their lives. I have taken many an hour, to personally assist drivers who are new to the industry. I learn as much from them, as they might from me. Swift should do a better job of training their people, and because they don't, I cannot for the life of me, see how they are able to keep insurance. Don't make fun of the trainees....they're doing the best they have been shown to do. The company is to blame for what we see out there. Last edited by TurboTrucker; 08.20.2006 at 04.18 PM. |

| Re: Are Swift drivers really that bad? Everybody has to start somewhere. Swift just has a really bad reputation because there is so many of them. On friday I had to go play switcher a this one company because the regular guy called in. A swift driver came in there and was trying to back into the dock. He tried for a good 20 minutes and just couldn't get it in. I sat there and watched him for a little while just laughing because I remembered what it was like when I first started. I finally went up to him and asked him if he needed help. I ended up backing it in for him. Poor guy just looked so frustrated. He said he had been on his own for about two weeks. |

| Re: Are Swift drivers really that bad? The last time I visited their insurance issues, they were having to spread the "wealth", so to speak over more than a dozen reinsurers, because no one company would take them on. This was shortly after they suffered a $11.5 million dollar judgment against them regarding an accident in North Carolina. There is only one way that they are going to pull out of the hole they are in, and that is to quit this crap of depending on newbies to run those trucks, and to find a way to attract experienced drivers, AND to improve their training program. Schneider did it. JB Hunt terminated theirs. Both have fantastic safety numbers presently. Swift is only outdone by one other motor carrier of any size, as being the worst, and that is Werner. They have the same issues, and the same problems. |

| Re: Are Swift drivers really that bad? u can't really take it personally. as soon as that guy gets out of your truck he's gonna drive how he feels like driving. a lot of the guys going thru training already "know how to drive". and will only do what u ask to make u shut up. mostly they're goin thru the motions so they can get their own truck and start makin the 'good money'. | Re: Are Swift drivers really that bad? Hello new driver for Swift here. I just jumped off the truck of one of thier trainers. I went to the Millington Academy in Millington TN. They don't even require a docking test to get a liscense. My trainer I had before I jumped off his truck was a basketcase. He demanded I drive 10 hours a day right off the bat even thouygh the company book says no more then 6 hours for the first 2 weeks. This guy couldn't keep his hands on the steering wheel. I personally think dateline or another news organasation should go through thier whole school and hiring process and expose them. |

| Don't forget--they're a DAC outfit, too Swift pays only lip service to public safety, no doubt. They'll hire on green drivers, put them to work for three months, and then ask them to be trainers. Of course, this makes a mockery of DAC......or does it? Oh yeah....I just remembered. How could I forget? DAC is not about safety. DAC is about controlling drivers. Companies use DAC to take away drivers' choices, meaning those drivers will be more or less "forced" to stick around companies that can then abuse them even more. DAC dirty-trickery makes drivers more desperate and thus cheaper, which is all it's intended to do.
