Hoosier Tradewinds is one company to STAY AWAY FROM !

I leased my truck and trailer with them Jan.24th, 2012. My husband is my driver.

Over the next two weeks he delivered 4 loads, and properly submitted the required paperwork. Those 4 loads had a gross revenue of $4,869.71.

On the 13th day, while sitting empty in TX, waiting for a re-load, his Driver Manager Wes called him. Wes told him to find another company to drive for, and that Tradewinds was not set up to load step decks, and that his fuel cards had been turned off.

That left my husband AND my equipment almost 900 miles from home, and we had to come out of pocket for fuel $400.

To this date -- Hoosier Tradewinds has not paid ONE CENT of the $2,934.15 they owe us ! They did settlement sheets, but never paid us. I had an attorney write them a Demand letter, which they have ignored.

I contacted my Congressman and the Indiana Dept. of Labor. Now I'm contacting Indiana newspapers, hoping some of them will consider a corrupt Indiana company newsworthy. I also filed a complaint with the FTC. I'm hoping to show a pattern of fraudulent business practices, in the hopes that this company will be stopped from cheating drivers.

PASS THE WORD to drivers, please ! Thank you.

runner4real, summerland and JenLaw84 Thank this.

I am an owner operator who worked for Tradewinds for the past month. Needless to say, I wish I had done better research. I have not been paid at all, and have called. I am not used to this type of operation, and definitely would not recommend this company to anyone. At this rate, I am hoping that I won't have to take legal action to get paid. They clearly cheat their drivers as well. They shave miles, won't pay tolls, want you to travel around tolls, and pay very little (if they pay at all(. What is even more apalling is that they operate under the auspice of Christianity. :biggrin_25513:
Bad company to work for. They need investigating for bad business practices and held accountable.:biggrin_25510:

I don't know how they stay in business.
I sent Indiana's governor a letter Monday with documents
to prove my claim. He has the staff to handle this, and I asked if the Attorney General might get involved, since there's clearly a pattern of fraudulent business practices.
I also directed them to the web site RipOffReport.com
There are 10 or more similar complaints on that site.
In our case, I think they think an out-of-state driver
won't have the time or the money to come after them
in Small Claims Court, but I have news for them --
I can and I will.
But until I get that done, I'm just trying to make sure the
word gets out there so they don't cheat more drivers.

Why didn't you file a claim on their bond?

This is all I could find. I'm sure you can find a phone number. But that's who their service agent is for IN.

Also their CSA score is terrible. They are in conditional intervention with another review in June.

I never heard of that before-- how do you go about filing a claim on their bond ? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I just know from what I read in here from owner operators. The DOT lists them on their website.

Here's a definition, I'm not sure if it applies or not. They are bonded is why I mentioned it. What can a phone call hurt?

Sorry I was multitasking. I see you were leased on now.

I don't think you can go that route. It's probably a civil matter. What did the attorney say?

Sue them in small claims court. The contract specifies Indiana jurisdiction, but since they don't abide by the contract, which has been cancelled, I'm thinking about suing in my home state, which is where my business is located.
Not sure if it would work, but it would be easier than traveling to Indiana.

Yes PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE if you are reading this STAY AWAY!!! My husband is leaving the end of this week they put us in the poorhouse literally. All these big promises of big $$. I really wish he would of listened to me two months ago when I was reading these forums and all the bad info that was posted but he was soooo dead set on getting back on the road and they kept reassuring him on the phone that things were different.

In the past two months he has grossed $29,189 and only bought home $1828 of that. Actually take $592 of that off cause we haven't gotten paid yet for Friday's settlement because the DD whenever they get around to it. He pays $1740 a month for a POS! They give you two weeks to look over your truck and any problems found are suppose to be on them except they NEVER get you into the shop. He got his truck on E so first week straight in the hole from fuel. Crappy miles up until this past week he actually almost hit 3000 FINALLY but a little too late. Deductions HAH they make you buy a computer / printer / inverter / wireless card straight off the bat unless you have those already which we did but he didn't bring them with so they said he could return them within a week but yup you guessed it the NEVER sent him by the office. Deductions are never consistent either because some of those deduction they can alter as they please. I had this whole excel spreadsheet set all you had to do was punch in the mileage and it would give you a round-a-bout figure of what he should of been bringing home and not once was it right because they kept changing stuff.

The one good thing I could say is that the staff was at least fairly nice I don't believe he had any serious issues with any of the ones he dealt with. I just can't imagine how they sleep at night knowing what they are doing to these drivers out there busting their @$$3$ out there getting their freight where it needs to be and they bring practically nothing home. Oh another bonus the lease is a walk away as long as proper notice is given so that's an upside of this whole fiasco as well.

If you want to work for free then by all means this is the company for you.

"We are a company owned and operated upon basic biblical principles." I'd really love to know what bible they are reading.
