I started with CRE almost a year ago i have been driving OTR as a company driver. My training experience was typical of what is described in this post. Inexperienced trainers who taught me more about what not to do than the right things to do. Over this past week i have been considering leasing with CRE because they pay me next to nothing for the amount of work i put in. But this post reminded me that their lease program literally pays nothing unless i train. Thank you all for the wake up call! I was seriously considering the ole fleece program. :)

Do not go with CRE, they will keep your broke with the lease program. I don't know about the company side except I believe it is setup the same, train new students to get miles.

Dont take this the wrong way cause I mean no disrespect but you should know very well how they stay in business. People like your husband who:

    A. Dont do proper research on a company

    or...

    B. Do the research and somehow think they're going to break the mold.

It took me about 15 minutes of research and reading to figure out I'd never go to CR England even if I was starving. I'm glad things worked out with you and your husband. He's seen the worst so it can only get better!!

Can I explain something to you. First off I had a friend who leased at,truck to now read my words again TO CR England. He was Leased to them. He got his truck thru Horizon Leasing and if you read and understand the contract of Horizon you can Lease on anywhere u wish not just with CR England. You are responsible for the truck not CR England. Even in his contract with England it stated he not an employee of them and he gave up his rights once he Leased to them. He worked for them for about 6 months and took the truck to another company. He did have to pay a 500 dollar contract buyout but he did better himself. You have to understand that some deals are a fleece but some are not its the same if u lease a car say for example. If you dont know how to run a business in trucking then some people need to just stay as a company driver. Im not saying England is not at times like all,the others with broken promises its just that new drivers should never lease or buy a truck until they get some miles under them and see how the day to day workings of a trucker really are. OOIDA wont help you because your laying the blame on england when in reality he was a lease driver and that relieves england from anything to do with the truck. Same goes for prime, swift, werner only difference is with horizon you can go somewhere else. Horizon helped my friend out and he was a 20 yr company driver. Im not a cr england advocate im just saying maybe u should have read, the contract or had a lawyer look it over before he signed.

Without throwing huge mudballs in every direction...I know more people who thought that they were going to make it big by working/leasing themselves to CR England. From what I've seen, they're just like any other company that takes new hires EXCEPT the tremendous amount of pressure that they place on their company drivers to become lease operators. I've heard many stories from drivers who tried in vain to remain company drivers there and in a relatively short period of time, they go through what I describe as "Choking out". It's the most common form of retribution I've seen in the entire industry. When a driver stands up for himself, his/her dispatch preference goes down. If you don't get suckered into pushing safe limits and doing whatever pleases the office, you get fewer miles to the point of not making a decent living. Once you sign that contract...as with any other deal. the further that you get to completing your contract, those who pull the strings can squeeze the hell out of you until you cannot pay your rent, car payment, child support, alimony or even feed yourself and then take back the truck as "their collateral." To put on a good show, almost all leasing companies maintain a "corral" of drivers they can show off who've "made it." Another typical trick that leasing companies engage in is limiting your options if you survive the lease period. The choice one of the largest companies gives is this...Pay us 60% of the original retail as a buyout (for a truck that's worth 30-40%) or sign a new lease on a truck with an inflated lease price and we'll transfer your equity (excess mileage charge) as a down payment! WHAT AN INCREDIBLE DEAL! In other words, even if you jump through all of their hoops and play all of the games, you will never own that truck without sacrificing your down payment and much more of your own money to pay for a truck that's worth less than what you'll pay for it. If this wasn't bad enough, they'll turn around and sell or re-lease your truck to somebody else if you walk away from it at any time. Again, you lose everything that you've put into it entirely! Maybe this is why more than a couple of lease operators for CR England have sabotaged or torched their trucks after being strangled for cash. If you don't believe me, just read back to about *thinks* 2007-2008 when two different drivers torched their leased rigs at the Portage Petro in Wisconsin. OH! One final note if it has not come up yet. If you decide that you're going to quit, DON't be a fool and blow up at dispatch! This action will prompt them to shut off your fuel card leaving you and the truck stranded. If you feel the need to run away, just wait until you get into a terminal and drop the keys on the desk AFTER you've made your travel arrangements and cleaned out the truck! Be fully aware that your credit will also be dinged for the ENTIRE cost of the lease and they may even pursue legal action against you. This is not limited to one company but is quickly becoming a standard "unwritten" practice!

Hello, I was a victim of the recession. I lost a good job and had to draw unemployment for 2 yrs. Because I have a record (20yrs ago) I couldnt get a interview. CR England agreed to verify my CDL with a refresher course and I was given the same options. I had absolutely no driving experience before getting my CDL in August of 2010. I came with an open mind, alot of fear, and a determination that was not mine but one of faith in a Power greater than me. I heard alot of negative things at the school, online, at truck stops, everywhere. People where saying CR England was no good. I couldnt help but notice that there where also alot of CRE drivers that where doing well and CRE was making close to $100 Million per year in profits. I decided to believe the results and not the negativity. I started training Phase II students immediately. I made over $1600 in my pocket my first week in my Lease Truck, but I didnt go home. I didnt want to dig a hole for myself in the beggining. I've learned that sometimes my bad decisions compound themselves with more bad decisions. One of my instructors said to me, whyopen a store and then close it for the first week or so. Success is about sacrifice. I got my truck 2 days before Thanksgiving. I stayed on the road. Six months later I became a Phase I trainer. I signed a 13 month short-term lease, so 8 months after Phase I promotion I was buying my truck. Through saftey awards I was able to get my downpayment to $1400 out of pocket. I decided to start a fleet with CRE. I will be purchasing my second truck in a few months. I have had several moments where I wanted to quit. My first year I made just over 53k. My second year I made just over 60k. I had 11 negative weeks in my first year and only 1 in my second year. Some weeks I made well over $2000 in my pocket. Other weeks I made just under $1000 in my pocket. I know that if I had quit i wouldnt be experiencing what I am today. By the Grace of God, I am in a position to build something that could out live me. I have hired another driver and he is actually driving my first truck. I have been off the road for 3 months now, and though there have been some very slow weeks, I wouldnt trade this opportunity for nothing in the world. This is the best place I have ever been in in my life. Another one of my CRE instructors told me when I was in class......'you can put two people in the same kitchen and give them the same utensils, the same recipe, the same ingredients and still the results wont be the same'......I understand that CRE is not for everybody.......but I sure do thank GOD that it has worked for me......I pray that God opens doors for your husband to succeed for you and your family. God Bless you!!!!!!

i wish i would have know all this before i agreed to let my husband go to their schooling. he has now been jerked around so much he is afraid of fighting back. they have done nothing but lie and push him around. and its so aggravating. we are barely getting by as is and now they are threatening to charge him $6000 if he leaves. they gave him paperwork to sign and wouldnt even give him the time to read it. they told him that if he didnt sign it he had to be off the premises in 30 minutes because he would be trespassing. its been nothing but a scam. im sorry that you and your husband had to deal with it all and i hope future drivers dont have to go thru the same thing.
