The biggest problems nowadays are this:
Drivers who get into this business thinking driving, "piece of cake"...there's a lot more to trucking than just holding he steering wheel...traffic, dot, shippers & recievers etc...but the big thing is and quite of bit people don't get this is....time management...that's us critical in this business..
Now with that said...
Companies on the other hand will at times dispatch drivers on loads that can't be made on time and expect driver to make it regardless..
This comes from people in the office who essentially drop the ball and sit on loads that should have been dispatched earlier..trucking co's cannot demand drivers to adequately trip if company doesn't do the same... It's a two way street on that issue.
A lot of times the office people who work days, the only thing there looking at is the clock waiting for 5 o'clock to hit so they can run out the door..
Last but not least...companies always want to hire the cheapest labor they can find...well like the old saying goes...you get what you pay for!
If you want the best..you have to pay the best...that's all the way from mgt down to drivers.NavigatorWife Thanks this. -
$100 a week doesnt sound right not even if your a newbie driver. You can make that in a day hauling a decent load, so either you were turning down a lot of stuff or something else.....story doesnt add up though.
I am about to work for Swift and I heard both the bad and the good stories but this story I dont really believe. I know I wont be making a lot of money but I am here to get my feet wet and get some experience. I have spoken to a couple people who have been with swift their entire career close to 20 years and love it and said they always made money and their tips were to never turn down a load you can make in time. -

I don't think gross pay was ever mentioned. It's easy enough to net $100 with any job if you are drawing advances excessively.
Just a thought.BigBluePeter Thanks this. -
Ive met lots of happy swift drivers. Lot of them on dedicated, training positions or 48 states.
You need to be employed before you voice your opinion on things you don't know about..............like trucking.coelement777 and God Bless America Thank this. -
rofl well said
A lot of people like to mouth off about things without even knowing, also the ones who have bad reviews with a company normally screwed up on their part, swift has a TON of drivers, you dont see reviews from even 10% of those drivers, normally people only take the time out for a negative review not a positive....just something to think about
I have met more drivers so far who enjoy the company compared to those who complain. -
Swift is its own animal. You shouldn't have to burn yourself out just to support yourself. Miles are there and saying more people enjoy it than hate it is simply wrong. 48 state guys like myself run into many swift drivers and the first complaint isn't miles its money made. I do admire the folks who stick around and finish what they agreed to pay there class off. Says a lot about the fine individuals that work here. A lot of great drivers putting up with garbage to drive and put something on the table. So to all you working homeless drivers keep it up and then move on ASAP. There are other companies who will appreciate your dedication to this scab driver company. 5 more months to go then we are out of here.
MikeCammer and MUSTANGGT Thank this. -
Not always but the majority of companies are the same. You get into a truck, start the engine and drive the truck from point a to point b and then do it all over again the next day and then the next, and the next after that. IF you came into trucking with debt up to your eyeballs and two, three kids to support with a wife who doesnt work, first off I admire your fortitude, but you have to look at how you got into that situation. You, and I say you as in anyone, cannot rightly nor fairly blame the company you are working at for "lack of pay" when it was you who got yourself, yourselves into the situation where you have to "run the wheels off the truck to survive".
IF I make a mistake, I look at it and try to come up with a solution to not make the same mistake or mistakes ever again. I am looking into this industry and I am seeing a trend. I would hate to be blamed for something when I step out and build a company myself to be blamed for someones else shortcomings when I had nothing to do with your personal situation to begin with. We all agree on pay when we sign on to a company. The pay scales by how many months you have and at least you receive pay raises. Its better than staying a certain CPM for years until you pass on. I read alot, and I see things and hear things that make me shake my head, I am 29 years old and by the time Im 40-45ish I will be retired with 3 trucks at least that I own outright. How do I know? I know because I plan, I budget, I save, I think through what I can control and I work with that. Life is life, trucking is trucking and we all come into this knowing what will happen to people. It should not surprise anyone. Is it fair? NO not really, but life isnt. I plan on being successful because I know how it feels to be poor, broke, and lack finances growing up. Will I be rich? That all depends on what I do with my time until its taken away from me.
People that complain hardly get anywhere in life because once you start complaining you switch off the side that says how can I be successful at something I love? Jumping from job to job or from cpm to cpm isnt the answer, because youll always want more with the more you have. You will increase your spending according to what you make and then wonder why dont I make a good wage? And the cycle continues until death. I am grateful for everything that happens because it teaches me things and prepares me for something down the line in life. If I stop and complain then there is no learning and I will continue along that pathway never getting ahead.
Making jabs at swift is not the answer, its your overall plan for your life. Sit down and make a plan, budget, save, invest, whatever it is you need to do to get off this complaining side onto the successful glad to be alive, money in the bank, no need for pay raise because youre making it side of life.
Its not what you make, its what you do with what you make that is the key. Its your mindset and its how you look at things according to your future plan and not just for the present age. Good luck! -
