Do you really wanna give up that nice volvo with the fancy tranny.
and start all over again.
I know you have 25 years exp but when we go to orientation. 98% of the time anybody with 4 or more years exp we all end up topped out the same
Level so your 25 years although an achievment, Doesnt mean alot to the carriers and thats a shame.
So how do we rectify this problem jeff .
Well old timer your smart, start your own company go wherever the hell u wanna.
Tell you what start a company up ill work for ya. But id guestimate you could hire less experienced drivers to get the same job done for less pay.
If you mind aint set on being a loanwolf
Iv heard of a company out of ga called southern freight.
They run the lanes you wanna truck in, if youv ever been to raltson purina in fairburn or jcpenny youv seen their yard trucks there.
I have to to be honest with ya i dont think they can pay you what you deserve to be paid.
But Never hurts to try.
Good luck

Deregulation = more jobs= more trucks=more trucking companies= More Competition= less freight rates= less driver pay, and some think it was a good thang
Companies going out of business everywhere cause they can't afford to pay drivers and buy fuel, but we get it hauled CHEAPThanks for your comment. Jeff

I am with may now and so far we have not sat long for loads of course I am still with a trainer. -
They hired me out of Texas and after 5 weeks out they told me that they would not be able to get me home for any home time.
So I turned my truck in and cleared out my gear. Then they saw that I was serious about quiting and asked me to stay. And said that they could get me home.
I quit anyways and I'm glad that I did. I switched to another company and made more money.
With May I always got a load, however it was almost always near 80,000 and I was told not to get fuel until after I was loaded. Of course I had to get small amounts of fuel every day to avoid being over gross.
The 379 I drove was nice. It had a few dents from previous drivers and it was governed at 65 MPH. When going through the mountians loaded near 80,000 pounds I had a tough time keeping a 55MPH average. Which kept my mileage down.
I made about $1000 to $1100 per week for the last four weeks. And I only had five months expierience when I drove for them. It's the not getting to go home after five weeks out that put me over the top.
And at 55MPH it was tough putting in enough miles per day to make $1000 per week. I had to use my magic pen almost everyday. LOL
Get your own truck as soon as you can and make $1000 every two days and let the Companies like May learn the hard way how to treat drivers like humans.
Just my opinion. -

Own my own Tractor. 2001 Columbia. Been driving for 19 months now. I bought the truck after being a Company driver for 13 months.
I've just leased on to Landstar. If you don't know about Landstar, the best thing I can tell you is to talk to any Landstar driver that you see at the truck stops.
Landstar is 100% Owner/Operators. You need a pretty clean record but not perfect. You need one year verifiable OTR expeirence. You don't need to have your own truck, you can drive for an O/O who has more than one truck.
You pick the loads that you want off the internet. So you can go where you want when you want at the price that you find.
I was leased to another company that would tell me that there were no loads available but I would get my own loads off of Landstar's Broker board.
What I have found out is;
Companies like to control how much money you make.
Companies like to control how long and how often you get home time.
There is plenty of freight out there. It's a matter of putting your self in a position to take advantage of it.
All the big companies would rather keep you at approx. $1100 to $1300 dollars per week. They would have you think that it's not a good thing to go from company to company.
I drove for four different companies in 13 months. I never had a problem going to another company.
If a company wouldn't get me the miles or get me home, I'd switch to another.
Now this may not work for all drivers but it worked for me.
Here is an example of a big company like Landstar's freight and then another big company like CRST's lack of frieght.
Both sites are free and you may find the same load on both sites. But Landstar's site 99% of the time will pay more for the same load. If you check out the sites you'll see that CRST's site is lacking freight volume.

http://www.crstcargoconnection.com/
Watch the tickets and your logs, becuase the big companies don't care about you. You need to look out for yourself and other drivers.
Say what you're going to do, and then do what you say.
Be professional. And if you can when you get your own truck, say no to cheap freight. -
wow the infamous trucker two times.. here .. somebody pinch me
okay , so I am curious. Why not an XM or Sirius show??
You certainly seem to have a following.
