May Trucking

I just had a very unsettling experience with these people. I went to their orientation on 4-4-07 and was hired after three days. On 4-7-07 My trainer and I left for my training. I was told i would be with a smoker, but wasn't. So I was not allowed to smoke on the truck. This I dealt with because I did not want to be a complainer from the start. All he did was complain about May, never being home, his wife, no miles (when he got miles he complained that he was to tired), etc., etc.... After about 2 weeks over the road in which I did most of the driving (which was good for me) I was dropped off at their Phoeix terminal. I was tested to be upgraded with the rudest SOB I have ever met. I knew I wouldn't pass the test before we even started. How can anybody be tested as a seasoned driver with 3000 miles of training? As I figured I failed. I was told to call the Training manager and he said sit tight we will get you another trainer, so off to the hotel I went again. The new trainer called me at 9:30PM and said I would have to leave most of my stuff behind, he has no room in his truck. He also informed me he did not want to train, this did not sound too positive allready. He said he would call me at 7 in the morning, but didn't. So at 9:30 the safety officer for Phoenix (the SOB) called and told me to meet him in the lobby. I waited for him and he took me back to the terminal, an hour later he called me into his office and fired me. When asked why he hesitated and said May didn't want to invest any more money in training me. He handed me a bus ticket (at least I wasn't stranded) for a ride back to Colorado that left at 11;00pm and arrived in 2 days. I ended up buying my own plane ticket home. Nobody wants to sit on a bus for 2 days while in shock! At this point I don't know if this will be a hit on my DAC or not. There were no incidents while I was driving what so ever. I now face not being able to find a new company because I'm considered a "job hopper" after a 20 day experience, Please, any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks to all! .

I'm just curious. What did this test consist of that made it so difficult to get a passing grade?

Wow! What an awful way to be treated. I suspect that the way the training program works. "As with most" They want to use the "TRAINEE" to quickly get them to the point to where they are now technically "a Team". They use new people, "TRAINEE'S" as a team operation and they want them to be able to be in a position to drive by themselves as quickly as possible. But don't worry though! They are so many companies out there that are screaming for drivers. I am sure you will find one that works well for you. And as far as your DAC goes I wouldn't sweat it. As with any credit reporting agency or such you can contest its content if you feel you are being misrepresented. You can also prevent them from sharing information out of it if you wish. But then that opens another can of worms to. I Hope you find a new Company to call home. I am a "PRIME"ate myself. LOL. I have my issues with them but just got Q/C message the other day that they are starting out co-drivers at 12cpm now. Not sure if it would be for you but just thought I would share it with ya.
Good Luck!

Just to clear this up, I don't think 2 weeks of training right out of school is near enough. I knew before the test was even taken I would fail, the safety guy didn't want to test me # 6:30AM. There was nothing unusual about the road test other than not knowing streets in Phoenix. (I missed a turn and had to go around the block) I also was told I should've anticipated a green light turning yellow??? I had been driving a Pete 387 through Portland, and LA during rush hour with no incidents under load. Also drove for about 4000 miles. Not having any problems I was rather shocked! After the test they tried to get me a new trainer and couldn't find one. The problem I am having now is I am not a new student I am a job hopper. Three companies have already said they only want fresh out of school and you have been terminated we can't help you. As I said earlier my trainer complained about no miles (we sat for 5 days out of 20) and when he got miles he told them he was too tired (I did most of the driving) This company has a REAL BAD lack of comunication! I might add I never saw the trainer open the hood of the truck in 20 days (pre trip my #####) some training? The first thing I was told was we would never set you up to fail, yeah right!

Well I don't think this should be normal. Its not what I have heard about with other companies that I have checked out. I might add it was the Phoenix terminal where this all happened, not Layton, Utah which was my home terminal. So if I were you I would really think about taking a chance with these people. Compaired to crete they have nothing going for them. If you smoke they don't set you up with a trainer that smokes which is another indicator of how they care.
