    The reason i tell you this is because I know a lot of you drivers like to hang up on us when we call. Just want to fill you in that the next time you hang up on us, you might be missing out on your dream job.
    Example: The job Im trying to fill now is a local tanker position that pays 70K per year. To let you know how good this one job is....I have put tons of ads out there and talked to at least 50 drivers...I have NOT YET talked to a driver who didnt beg me for that position. However, with good jobs comes pretty strict qualifications for that job...so its a little harder to find qualified drivers.
    Those who have had us remove you off our call lise, I guess you are SOL.




    Says something about you JB man none of your driver qualify? All driving jobs should come with strict qualifications. Maybe you should apply this to your company hiring program, and them you'd not have such a hard time filling this position. So who is really SOL here?

    IDK, should i let WiseOne ban this one, or do I march into the JB Hunt office in Lowell and find out who is really spamming this site. After all, I'm still coming in for Orientation on Monday. the Office isn't but another 5 blocks off the main terminal on Bloomington Ave.

    Change, and you won't have to do so much recruiting. And you should know that when you walk into someone else's territory, and you ARE the enemy, you should leave your smart aleck attitude at the gate. It makes you appear to be a fool.

    My letter sent to WiseOne about my recent experience with JB Hunt and DAK

    July 22, 2007

    Briefly, I am writing to you because I am facing a challenging conflict and rather serious dilemma, which has to do with the DAK system that was created by the lack of a better word, one sided truck companies. Actually, the situation happened in May of 2007, but before I detail the problem I want to inform you that I am a fairly new truck driver, just a little over a year. I reside in Queens, NY and began my trucking career with Werner Enterprise (WE). The year at WE was at best good and I have no major complaints against them, except that it was really hard to make any kind of substantial money. After the year with WE I decided to look for a company closer to my hometown of NYC and one that offered a dedicated route.

    Initially, I signed on with a small independent company, but that did not last long due to their unscrupulous work ethics. After that, I decided to take a position in NY with, JB Hunt…they were bigger and offered me a good deal (be careful what you ask for!). At this point, I was still a fairly new truck driver and also naďve on what it really takes to drive in such a complex and challenging town as NYC, hence to make a long story short, I had two accidents in one month. Both accidents in my opinion were minor since no external property was damaged; just a scratch on the top of my truck and no one was hurt. In addition, the police was contacted and they concluded the incidents were so minor, no report needed to be completed and I was not even issued any summonses by them.

    Nevertheless, the incidents did leave me somewhat shaken but I thought quitting was not the appropriate action and continued to try and persevere at JB Hunt. Then two weeks later, they requested I take my truck to get some maintenance in NJ and much to my surprise, I was terminated at the maintenance center, which was literally miles away from my home in NYC with all my personal belongings (i.e. TV, sleeping bag, food). I did try to ask why and how was I going to get home from NJ with all my belongings? However, JB Hunt the once responsive and “reliable” company turned a blind eye and left me to ponder that and many other questions (i.e. DAK) on my own. At this point, I wanted to get as far from JB Hunt and NJ as possible to regroup myself both mentally and emotionally, so with the help of a friend, I arrived back home safe and sound.

    So, I realized that a small company with poor work ethics and driving for JB Hunt in such a challenging environment like NYC was simply not for me. I then decided to go back on the road (OTR) to regain some strong experience and my confidence…making this decision gave me a sense of piece and fulfillment. In addition, during this time I studied and received all three of my endorsement (i.e. Hazmat, Tankers and Doubles), which further helped me to regain some confidence. Unfortunately, this euphoric mood was short lived when I tried to get an OTR position once more. Basically, I applied for a company (nameless) and was informed that due to my background check given to them by the DAK report, it showed that I had been involved in two preventable accidents at JB Hunt and I was not qualified for the position. At this instant, I asked, what is a DAK report?

    After some research on the internet, being turned down for employment and now facing a major financial situation, is when I finally woke up to the realization of the power of the trucking companies and their DAK system. Consequently, I contacted JB Hunt for further clarification and spoke to a security department representative, in order, to plead with them to delete the second accident from the DAK report because the first accident was mainly my fault, but the second I was literally following their directions to my destination---of course their response although cordial in its delivery was a resounding “no”. Instead the representative stated, “Maybe you need to look for another career”. After my quick initial discomfort, I responded that I have spent a lot of time and money on my CDL license also figuratively speaking, I wished them a good life.

    Furthermore, I started an extensive internet research about the DAK system and metaphorically speaking left my immaturity at the door when I came upon your insightful web-site (TheTruckersReport.com) and your obvious passion, not for the trucking companies, but for me, a truck driver. Yes, it made me more optimistic, however, I still feel afraid because I left a secure career at the NYPD Traffic Department for a trucking business that is so corporately monopolized, humbled because if not given another opportunity to go back OTR I may become impoverished and angry that these trucking companies would even have the audacity to assume accidents whether they be preventable or non-preventable can be 100% avoided.

    As I initially mentioned, I am currently facing a challenging conflict and rather serious dilemma and need help. My questions are: How do I get out of this mess? What do I do? What are my rights? Should I stop trucking? What companies should I look for? What does the acronym DAK mean? Why was DAK never mentioned in trucking school? Are there any more individuals in the same predicament? Someone please help?

    As a final point, I truly believe everything happens for a purpose then out of that experience (if ones fortunate) one can humanly grow therefore I am in no way trying to justify or not take responsibility for my two minor accidents. Instead, in my humble opinion, I have realized that the DAK system does not favor the individuals who spent a lot of money on a CDL license, does not favor the individuals that are out on the tough roads in our country, does not favor the individuals that sacrifice family time and does not favor the individuals that are putting the sweat and tears doing the hard manual labor, instead the DAK system does favor the trucking companies, which is basically unfair and way to powerful.

    UPDATES July 23, 2007:
    • I have been turned down for three more trucking positions. They informed me that I have to wait 6 to 12 months to reapply due to my DAK report.
    • I requested a written DAK report from the information I got off your web-site.
    • I just contacted my old job and they set me up with an interview, which means if and when I am rehired, I will be leaving the trucking business…lessened learned. Thinking about homelessness is not good feeling.
    • To add insult to injury, JB Hunt denied my unemployment claim due to my accidents being “misconduct”…unbelievable. So, I am requesting a legal fair hearing on the matter.

    Another letter

    Yet another letter about a JB experience going to somebody, such as DAC, or to JB itself. I bet if one gathered together all these letters from just this year (so far), it'd fill a small notebook.

    What can we call these letters? There is the "Dear Jane" letter, the "Dear John" letter, and others. Someone should come up with a hip name for it, as it's so common it deserves its own name.

    My experience with JB Hunt was one of the worst. I did all the required paperwork and was approved for hire. I went to orientation in NJ. Did everything i had to during the first day. The second day was the road test and getting assigned trucks. I passed my road test ( obviously ) But after the road the terminal manager came to get me. He brought me into the office and told me they can not hire me at that time. I asked him why. he said he could not give me that answer. He then told me to walk back to the hotel and get a taxi in the morning and go to the bus stop and go home. 2 weks after i got home and applied to another company they asked me about JB Hunt that was listed on my DAC report. I told the recruiter waht happened. He then told me that JB Hunt had listed on my DAC report that i quit or was terminated during training. Well, For one i do not need training. For 2, I did not quit. For 3, i thought they could only report to DAC if you actually were assigned a truck. Maybe i'm wrong. That report still sits on my DAC report. The company i'm driving for now questioned me about it as well. When i told them what happened they told me that alot of drivers have had that same problem.

    Back on topic, I was with my recruiter out at Lunch Break during Orientation in Lowell, and I did ask my recruiter what this was about. He said they do some new deal called Contracted Hiring or something like that, where they hire for companies that aren't in direct competition with them (or anything that isn't Dry Van or Intermodal, I suppose).

    I applied with JB Hunt back in 1995 and took a road test for them in Forest Park, GA to hire on. After taking the road test, they failed me because I was floating the gears instead of double clutching. This was at the end of the day and they said I could come back tomorrow and try again. They never told me up front to double clutch. What a joke that was.
