I went to work for PTL as a Driver Trainee. They have no TRAINERS. They throw two recent graduates or anyone with less than a years experience in a cab and send them out. THIS IS DANGEROUS! They only wanted us to do the Jersey NY Chi runs, and that for .18 cents per mile. They told us to run team, even tho the rules say two trainees when training, both must be in cab at all times. I trained for three months at a tech school. My teammate trained for two weeks. He would qualcom, text, and talk on his cell phone while steering the truck with his left knee. He refused to pre or post trip, or even check the oil. It was a nightmare. If life and limb mean nothing to you, this is the company for you!

Yeah, I looked into them too. When they first talked to me,they said that I would spend atleast 7,500 miles behind the wheel with a trainer..Then like a week later they said training would be 30,000 miles with who ever they could throw me in a truck with and run like a team...Needless to say, that conversation ended real quick....Sorry to hear about your misfortune with them....

What is the full name of the truck company? I did a web search and didn't find a good match for PTL.
Are you talking about Paschall Truck Lines? -
That would be the one...

I don't know about the training but coming in as experienced driver not too bad. As with all companies, they have their issues in some areas. You have to decide what you are willing to put up with. Miles may be on the low side (depends on what you are willing to do for them) but I wasn't looking to be super trucker.
I spent 8+ years there. They keep their equipment in pretty good shape (majority are automatics). They usually know where their trailers are, most of the time you do not have to go searching for an mt - they tell you what trailer number you are to p/u. A lot of the customers have been around for a long time and most were OK. I was fortunate and had reasonable dispatchers (there a few I wouldn't want).
Unless they have changed their policy, you can choose not to load/unload, to do hazmat and no New England or New York City (you will probably get more miles if you do choose these options). If you do do New England or New York City or hazmat, you are paid extra. To me load/unload not worth what they pay extra (lumpers usually available).

I've heard good and bad about PTL! Seems to me like there's more bad! I got a message on my voice mail about a job there and was wondering! I don't think I'll try them! I'm an experienced driver btw. I haven't heard anything about Canada! They don't go into Canada?
