It started over the arguement we were having. I was giving as good as I got the words used got filthy. The OPs manager got mad and called the local police. Will be happy to send you a copy of the police report to back up what I am saying I was put out of the truck 1000+ miles from home because I wouldn't cheat anymore and was wanting to go home. Thier website and recruiting advertises every week hometime. I know you are a moderator Portland and I really want to leave this post up so potential recruits for the company will think twice. Feel free to let me know what to send you to prove my story. I want all drivers considering NFI to know that you do not get the promised home time and that the company will call the police on you and put you out of a truck anywhere if you refuse to go get a hot load for them no matter if you are legal or not. Thanks GEARJAMMER

Hey gear jammer, I don't need to see the reports. What you have said is good enough for the time being. I have no reason to question what you have said here...

National Freight is a company that has always been on my radar screen for driver abuse. I have heard stories like this time and time again. They are to be avoided at ALL costs. I state this without any reservation whatsoever.

My friend, what they did to you was unquestionably about as bad as it gets, and you are in a unique situation because you have had the police involved in what they did to you. I would immediately begin talking to Attornies, because you probably have a great case and could go after them for some rather big bucks. Get it in front of a jury, and you cannot lose.

The only thing that would make it any better is if you had recorded the phone conversations, legality be ######. Unfortunately, Massachussetts is a state where it would have been patently illegal to record without notification to the other party in advance.

In case anyone is interested in learning more about recording phone conversations, and where it is legal to do so, you can read more here:

    http://www.callcorder.com/phone-recording-law-america.htm

Anytime a driver runs into problems like this, I'd record the conversations and worry about the legal issues later. The worst thing that can happen is it will not be used as evidence. Very few people who are a party to a recorded conversation are convicted of wrongdoing, especially when it was done for protection.

Without any compelling issue, such as being caught with illegal contraband in the truck or having been a threat to the public in some manner, the company had no reason or cause to evict you from that truck. They had every obligation to allow you to return it to where you were hired from.

I would advise you to contact OOIDA IMMEDIATELY. I cannot say what kind of response you will get, because I don't know exactly what all the circumstances are, but you present enough in your posts to suggest that you might have them by the short hairs. They can refer you to a law firm that may help you with this.

You lost many of your personal possessions and you were not paid for work performed. I urge you to also immediately contact your local or state employment offices and attempt to file a complaint against them for the unpaid wages, which will again get more of their wrongdoing on record. I am aware that some states do not offer very much in the way of assistance in these matters, but some will.

Don't let them get away with this, if at all possible. At the very least, if you and the terminal you were hired from are located in the same state, take them to small claims court, which is something that you can do without legal assistance amd with very little cost up-front to you. I have no doubt that any Judge will see it your way and you will be able to recover the costs of the possessions you lost along with your unpaid wages.

I had a good experience with nfI,i worked for them for 6 months. The trucks were all cleaned in and out for my class at orientation. I got 36 cpm and the pay was always right. I ran poland springs water out of maine at three different locations to long island,ny, bronx ny brooklynn ny, Got home every weekend except 2, got mad that 2nd weekend they kept me out was a holliday weekend. They dispatched me to load a load going away from home. I was in Ill.,I looked in the nfi book for nearest terminal in il,took truck to that terminal, asked the terminal manager to check my truck out that i was quitting,he checked it out,had to leave cooler and some other things behind. I asked him to please let his favorite driver take use of what I left. I was given an almost brand new truck from them. Vince in bellfuch ny was a real nice person and the big guy in elizebeth nj treated me great. I also met Mr brown there one day,he was with the old man,I was shocked,he walked right up to me and asked me what I liked and didn't like. He listened to me,I would've died for that big black 4 dr sedan mercedes they were riding in. I never rode in one, never mind owning one. Anyhow i took a bus home to maine from il. I did find that on weekends like friday nights, had to argue with young fill in dispatchers about getting home. I forgot the little lady s name that was driving manager. I wrote everything down one night, night dispatch sent me on a wild goof chase one night,I gave her that guys name, got nfi drivers to verify everything and she straightened that guy out for me,he said yes sir and no sir,and no more silly mistakes dispatching me. I did toys r us also,nj to me, all drop n hook, and bjs wholesale. Christine in the office and that big guy in lawnside treated me well. They called me the other day,my wife said. I keep a perfect drivers record and that helps out alot,I guess. I got paid right up to dropping that truck off.

My husband drove for them also. He too was cheated out of pay. Had to wait weeks to be paid for loads and also was given a dirty truck. Unfortunately he didn't take pics of the truck when he got it so when it was time for him to say adios to them and return the truck they kept his truck escrow because they blamed the condition of the truck on him. NFI rates right up there with Swift and JBH.

NFI sent a letter to my husband also trying to get him to come back. I laughed and tore up the letter. I talked to Mr Brown about the truck escrow. He is a jerk in my opinion.

I guess it helps to speak up and mean it. How you lasted that long is beyond me. If they are doing all these things to you, over running you, not getting paid for miles you ran, not getting home. Why did you do it so long? They were nice to me ,especially Vince in bellfuche ny.,its lawnside on weekends where I had all the trouble. I hope your all in a better place right now. I can tell you one thing though, use your brain and try to help whatever your company you are working for, if your hours are ate up unloading or loading and your not creative, you may as well quit and run local. You need to cover yourself and your company. I can't explain anymore than that, the experienced will know what I'm trying to say.
