For awhile now I've been anticipating my desire to become an OTR truck driver. I have some experience operating some construction equipment as well as various diesel equipment on job sites. I've been staying in touch with the cheif recruiter, Claudia Donato at C.R. England. Everything they wanted me to do as far as preliminary information and requirements has been met. I was told very cleary in a phone conversation with Claudia that there are two driving history requirements that must be met. I asked her to repeat them both and I wrote them down so there would be no mistakes. The two requirements were as follows:
A > In the last 3 years, you cannot have a speeding violation in excess of 90MPH.
B> In the last 2 years, you cannot have a violation that exceeds 15MPH over the posted speed limit.
Yesterday I got an email from Claudia stating that I am disqualified BECAUSE I have a two year old ticket in CT, where the written speed on the infraction was 75+/65. This means I was exceeding 75MPH in a 65MPH zone, but it is UNKNOWN by just how much. Does this seem a bit unfair???? 75+ could mean 75.1mph. It could also mean 72MPH. IF it were indeed more than 15MPH, wouldn't the ticket have to say something like 80+MPH?????
I think this is pure BS......disqualifying me over a simple "+" sign on a 2 year old speeding ticket. I was all ready to depart for the Dallas training facility and now this crap. Perhaps this is JUST A SIGN of things to come if I were to go to work for C.R. England as a company driver!
I get the impression that C.R. England recruiters are trained and/or told NOT to hire people who seem smart enought o find ways to STAND UP for themselves. They seem to want people who will take any old kind of crap they might be handed. This is of course only speculation on my part; but my intuition usually serves me very well.
I'm sure there are other companies with CDL training programs who would overlook my ONE SPEEDING TICKET from 2 years ago, for driving "75+" in a 65MPH speed zone.
With all that I've been reading on the web about C.R. England, perhaps this is purely a BLESSING in disguise!!!!
Any advice on who might train me and put me to work as a COMPANY DRIVER (no leasing please) would be highly appreciated. I got divorced 3 years ago and I'm ready to drive my ### off to make some money. I don't mind taking some crap for a couple of years.....and I'll run non-stop if needs be!
Getting BSed by C.R England

You're too sharp for their own good.

Most of the big companies would probably hire you on and put you with a trainer but I'd get my year in and then find something else with maybe one exception.... Werner. I really have nothing to say about them and may even consider going back to them. I only left because of the last dispatcher I had. We could not get along and when I went to switch dispatchers my supervisor said no. Come to find out later on that he was protecting the dispatcher's job because they were really good friends. They both ended up getting fired about a year later I was told.

Needless to say, I was simply shocked by the title of this thread. I simply can't believe CRE would waste the opportunity to screw another driver because of this.

So how fast were you going? They probably get hundreds of applications in this economy and most of them probably have no moving violations. So you are behind the eight ball by just having tickets.

Here in Arizona. There a lot of companies that wont hire you. Even mom and pop companies. a lot of times. it not the companies, But the insurance companies. If you have a clean recorded. you can find a job here. In town driving is an other story. you will have better luck finding the holy grail before finding a in town job.

Hey Mike, not exactly. I have a clean record, but my last experience driving was 3 years ago and it was local. My OTR experience was over 15 years ago. I am having trouble getting hired.
It is crazy, I have my CDL over 20 years and can't get a job and I have applied to many, and am applying to more everyday.
Take care, Larz -
Hey Larz, you have tried CRE, right? I saw an ad in the paper a few days ago which prompted me to apply to them. Supposedly, they can't get enough drivers right now. Down here in SoCal, the ad is in the LA Times, The Press-Enterprise, The San Bernardino Sun, etc. Every paper I've come across has their ad in it.
My class, which begins on Monday, has approximately 52 guys coming in. It's said that only half will make it out alive, but it's worth a try. Apparently, the 52 that will be there, are new hires, non-CDL, non-experienced drivers. I have read the horror stories, but everyone I hear from, and it wasn't a recruiter, has told me that this company is worth trying. I come from a long line of drivers in my family and they all know about CRE. They've all told me to DO IT because they have driven for CRE, and many of their friends have also.

Oh, and one other thing, Larz, SWIFT is in your direction, but have you considered May? I hear good things about them and have done my research, I only wish I had my CDL and experience already. But, then again, if anyone was hiring for pilots anymore, I'd be punching holes in the sky, and not attempting to get my CDL and go OTR.

Thanks Sean,
I have not applied to CRE yet because of the horror stories, but I am getting desperate.
I did apply to swift about a month ago, they ran my DAC and it was clean because I received a copy, thats how I know, but that is it, I did not hear from them.
I just applied to May yesterday online. When I called them and told them, they said they get those apps once a day in the morning, so I will be calling them back today.
Thanks Larz
PS. Have you tried Southwest? I have applied there for other things and they have a separate section for pilots.
Good luck!
Larz
