Somehow , I truly doubt. However it would be very easy to find out. Just call one of the recruiters , present your location and the zip. He/she will tell you right there and then. I asked several companies the same question. The answer is very clear. It is all about where you live and also about your house ( subdivision , etc...). Tanker.......most likely NOT. However, I have 0 ( hours) behind the big rig wheel. Just using common sense and the info I gathered by hanging around here and talking to many truckers. Got my license 5 months ago and STILL debating if I should get into this thing or not. I have two friends driving for Averitt for over 3 months now and they are both ready to quit. The truth is this : After 12 weeks of driving , they put all the numbers together , all the hpurs of ACTIVE WORK. The conclusion is .... they get paid an average of $ 5/ hour. One of them calls it ina funny way "########". $436 /week after taxes is CERTAINLY no money to live on. Keep in mind, both of them are single.
It is kind of discourageing. Fun might be fun but after a while it gets old. Hope you know what I mean. Once again...... I am not a driver . I just get the info from two recent graduates whom are BOTH VERY HONEST.

If you never driven for a company and its been 5 months since you been out of school, I doubt anyone will hire you now.

I am prehired by Schnider as of last week. All they requested is a refresher course. That kinda makes sense to me. Dont you think?
For instance, here is my situation ; my business went south, I needed to sell my house , store my stuff in storage, arrange a place to sleep once every 3 weeks when I come in town. I think these are actions that a responsible person would take. This friend of mine who jumped into it right after graduation still pays $700 rent + another $ 150 utillities for sleepind two nights in his bed /week. That is a big waste of money. The lady @ Schneider was very understanding and she actually supported my decision and she considered it very responible. Th7s friend of mine doesn't even have the time to look for a cheaper alternative to live. The money he is making is pocket change. He wishes now he did what exactly what I plan on doing.

I see you are in Atlanta. Here is something else to think about ,JCPenny dedicated account, in my class we had several people hired for it and I have been texting with them and they seem to like it alot

Appreciate your help and advise. However, I would like to go tanker. Orientation in Carlisle Pa.
I still have like a month to get the house closed on and mo e my bedroom set @ my sister's house. I will go OR so I will spend my days off at her house. Her husband doesnt mind. That way I vam save some money and with God's help get back on my feet. It is knda depressing. I am 45 y/o and for the last 13 years I was general contractor. Worked for myself and had peop,e working for me. Now all went to the toilet. I feel like all I worked for was a waste. But it is ok. Thanks God I am healthy and alife by the grace of Him.

Life is a circle, in a few years construction or remodeling of old construction will be big time again. And after driving a truck and saving some money you can get back in the business if you still want to. Good luck my friend.

    Christian23 Thanks this.

I just wonder if there is a way to actually make decent money in trucking. I know one can survive by doing it. But.....hard work and dedication will actually provide us with some kind of decent life? I know it might be a stupid question to ask but, I am still asking. Just wondering, how happy are you after 11 years of trucking ? I understand if you might chose not to share your toughts.

My turn of events is also something like yours.. I just got back to driving a truck after being laid off a non trucking job after 12 years due to the downturn in the economy. I drove a truck for 10+ years before that, so now I am back at it driving again. I always enjoyed driving a truck, but things have changed alot since the late 80's and late 90's when I used to drive. We didnt have Elogs, Qualcomms, etc, and these crazy people texting and on cell phones back then. One thing that hasnt changed is the pay...I make the same trucking as I did back then, O well its a fun job never the less..
