Uncomfortable is an understatement! This is more like it...

Need to invest in an air conditioned chem suit

We are supposed to wear that stuff?
Actually I try to block those hot days out of my mind. -
That little microwave thing is just flat out funny. -
At the risk of opening a big can of worms....We load and unload at places such as chemical plants, refineries, even nuclear power plants for example. You just don't get John Doe off the street to come in and start working with some of these chemicals, many of the people we deal with have been there for a while, lots of training and make decent money. You don't usually have to deal with some guy making minimum wage running a fork lift, pissed off at the world who is on a power trip. Detention pay eliminates alot of the sitting around nonsense.
I was going to say something about the drivers themselves, but, no need to put a stick in that hornets nest. Just sit back observe tanker drivers and other drivers and I think you will get the point.Twicebit, GWG and superpet39 Thank this. -
In regard to pay. Another hornets nest. I have been told that Bulk drivers on some accounts get paid by the day and not by the mile. I am coming on board soon and was quoted a daily rate (about $150 + PU (20) and Del (35) as well as detention time of only $10 per hour after the 2nd hour. Is this reasonable? What really troubles me is that the recruiter mentioned I would be "On Call" for all 14 hours a day, work 6 days with 1 off. Being on call reminds me of sitting at truck stops when I was OTR for more than a day! Us Xpress, thank you. Do I simply stay at home until they "Call" me??

The recruiter has not said much more than that. I can call him but they cant receive emails from the "Real World". When I call, it's the voice mail game and then once we make contact there are no details to any of the questions that I have. Just 'puttin on the blinders and lead the horse in a straight line'. I can see why many come and go with this type of initial treatment.
superpet39 Thanks this. -
