I REALLY appreciate all the info that everyone has given me. When I am thinking of doig something (the Choice Program), I do a lot of research and ask a lot of questions to find out everything I can. I never enter into something new with blinders on. This is something I've learned the hard way in my 50+ years on this earth.

    With that said...

From what I have heard from other threads, Ohio seems to be an area with a lot of good paying freight. I live right in the middle of the state in Columbus. I was wondering if I might be able to do what ETCH5858 does in Texas? Stay in the same general area and dealing with mostly the same customers. That would be great because you'll learn how each customer does business and thus reduce time sitting in my truck waiting on loads. Since I can't view the board, would someone be so kind as to list some freight (miles and pay) of some loads in Ohio and surrounding states.

    Thank you in advance...

Knowing that area I believe it could be ran alot like Texas. Using Ohio and Indiana as a frieght base. Here Houston, Dallas and San Antoinio form a strong triangle that I am able to stay between and I would think I75 in Ohio could be used the same way.

from what I've seen wouldn't be a problem at all.....run regional OH, IN, IL and could be home every weekend man maybe once or twice through the week. Like I said before, OH is a very strong freight state. Thing about running regional though is you gotta run your tail off. But, heck yeah, you could do it

Look man.. truthfully, alot of people that jump from making 500 dollars a week as a company driver to say.. 1100 a week as a CHOICE IC with an equal 1100 a week lease payment.. will tell you they are living the life and its superb and great. Again.. its relative because a person that is already making good money as a company driver with a good company will tell you that driving for SNI Choice makes them about the same or less after all the BS is cleared up.

SNI Choice works like this.. SNI brokerage gets loads and then sets a price that they give to SNI the trucking company..(both the same company btw. Then SNI takes and gives you 65% of that price that they gave to themselves thru SNI brokerage lol... so in essence.. what you will get is already set by them. Do you honestly think that any company will give you the IC all the great paying light loads while giving their own 15,000 company drivers all the heavy low paying loads? Really? This is why Landstar wins over SNI because they are 100% owner op plus they have every reason to get you the best value thru the brokerage. They have no one else to give all that good freight to.

My opinion and this is from experience working with SNI Choice... if you're absolutely desperate then go for it. If you have a decent driving history then try landstar or the likes. Heck your own authority and run CH robinson loads even.

yea Roadrunner or dart for some and landstar for others.. it all depends what part of the country you run in and some even like mercer... but the point is that anyone that works for a company that has both company and owner ops and is hoping to get good loads is only fooling themselves. Heck the company of about 200 trucks I run for now has about 100 owner ops and the owner himself tells me that he keeps all the high paying light amazon and fedex loads for company trucks while giving away the heavy loads to owner ops while from time to time they may get light good paying loads because company guys just can't get to them etc..

Cove I've been with both landscape and currently with sni. Personally sni is better as others have said with landstar a lot of negotiating and there are definitely the good ole boys loads where you never see them hit the board. I still manage to do okay while I was there but I'm doing better here at sni. I've been here for 2 and a half years my first complete yr here was a little over 213 last year was 225 I generally get home 1 or 2 times during the week and every weekend it just kinda depends on you as how much you make and when you get home hence the choice. Ohio in general is a good area for freight

I'm back looking at SNI Choice for several reasons.

First off, at least for me, it isn't all about the money. I'm more than confident I can bring to the table at least what I am making as a company driver here at Crete, and to be honest, that's all I really need as I have a working wife, some rental income, and as of recently, a little additional income from some old family business property. My thing is that I live in SC, my parents (both in their mid 70s) live in CA, along with my sister and her family and my oldest friends. Over the last 30 years, I've seen the friends less than five times and my family not really a heck of a lot more often than that.

None of us are getting any younger.

So, if this equates to "freedom", I'll accept that. I'm long past the point of feeling like I have to run as hard as I can, every minute that I can, just to make a few extra thousand per year. I was a company driver for SNI for 4 1/2 years, and while I'd never go back to them in that capacity, I'm still familiar with how they work, their freight network, etc. And I'm comfortable with it.

Is it a risk? Sure it is. But life is a risk, is it not?

BTW....if any Choice drivers would care to share with me (via PM) their approximate weekly take-home dollars, I'd be most appreciative.
