Well, considering I drive for TWT (Tidewater Transit) & know for a fact there were drivers straight out of CDL school at orientation & training when I was this past August, I'll have to disagree. They used to require one year of experience, but I'd notice an ad they'd put out an ad back then saying, "Now hiring at all levels...", so I called, & sure enough, they were hiring even recent CDL grads. At the time I'd driven for McElroy for 6 months tho. Trimac, on the other hand, at that same time told me I'd have to have one year experience.

Even though I wanted to I didn't go in to the military (didn't finish school and had to go get my GED not because I got in trouble or anything it's a long story) so I don't have to worry about the VA ojt part.

I have a conditional hire with a major flatbed co with a VA ojt program but i really want to drive tankers and one twt's terminals is in wilmington NC(im in FL right now, use to live in NC). Ill try to fill their apps online and call the recruiter. Hopefully they dont require to live within range of their terminals.

Yeah, these companies change "policies" all the time it seems, depending on need I suppose. The first time I looked into Tidewater they did require a year. A few months later, they put up the ad I mentioned. lol

I just checked out Tidewater Transit and they have no terminals in Indianapolis.. As far as I know, Schneider is the only one so far in the Indy are that trains tanker drivers and that has the VA Program..

"Range of their terminals" --- I suppose that's relative, as they say. Tidewater does not let drivers take the tractors home. When off duty, the truck is parked at the terminal. I say "relative" b/c when I first hired on, I lived just over two hours from the terminal. However, my mother-in-law lived in a nearby town so I could stay at her place when I was "home" during the week. We just bought a house tho, about 15 minutes from my terminal.
Have you checked into Florida Rock Lines (I believe it's called)?
