We finally got a load out of Laredo yesterday afternoon, headed to Missouri. The other trainee drove us to Dallas OC, where we stopped for the night. Arrived about 3am.
Since there are two of us trainees we have to get a hotel room, no biggie. (Here's one of the thing not "perfect") Authorization for hotel came through, again no biggie my car was at OC. We didn't check on address because we thought we knew which hotel. Get to the car get going looking forward to sleep, only to find the hotel was on the north side of Dallas, about 35 min away. Then when we arrive our room's ac not quite working.
We gave up and went to sleep.
Now I know it's hard to understand this, even more difficult when you read this, but I am not typing any of this in anger, as a matter of fact I am smiling as I type this. It's all part of the grand adventure. I might be a little sweatier than in would normally like this morning, I still have to drive across Dallas to get back to the OC, but also I am still training to be a truck driver for Schneider! And today I get to drive a truck to Missouri!
The adventure awaits!
Just getting started

Well made it to Missouri last night. Still need to work on some things, but I've actually only been driving a month, and yesterday was my first real extended trip. Overall, I think I'm doing fairly well. Didn't kill or injure anyone, didn't hit anything, didn't get a ticket, arrived at projected time - first goals met.
My patience is being a bit tested though. Couldn't get a hotel, they were all booked. So the three of us had to camp in the truck. TE offered me his bunk, but I have sleep problems anyway, so opted for the passenger seat, so I could get out when necessary with out interrupting the others sleep. Not a good night.
But again I figure not everything is going to be puppies and rainbows when I'm out there on my own so I might as well get used to it. Take my lumps as it were.
I learned to play with the cruise controls and jakes going up and down hills (no mountains yet) and had a blast. Still having fun with this.
I know I'm still new, green, wet behind the ears, a babe in the industry, but I'm glad I made the choice to do this. Thanks for reading and comments.
We unload here in Missouri today, pick up again and back to Laredo.
The adventure continues!mickimause Thanks this. -

I say the trainer to student ratio is too great . Not enough of them. 2 in the truxck plus TE too. WE stayed in the room most nights except once to get sleeper time.
We also had ALL kinds of time on our loads to allow for earlier shut downs to ensure we got a room.
In 20/20 hindsight for such a safety conscious company it isnt all that safe to have a passenger sitting on the bunk unrestrained.Reisende and mickimause Thank this. -
Most of the TEs that double up or do mixed gender will take the hotel.room and leave the trainee in the truck for three reasons. 1) prevents the trainee from staying up all night watching tv ; 2) time management - I'll get up, clean up, kick the trainee out of bed, and check out while they're showering and 3) allows the trainee to experiance sleeping in the truck before they're on their own.
In theory it is reserved for good trainers/trainees only. The TE in the GB division with the highest retention rate doubles up all the time. Done right it allows a lot more time with#the QC and soft skills while not neglecting the hard skills.
Reisende and mickimause Thank this.
