I've been lurking for quite some time. I have to confess I've been watching DFO and watching his experience with the "Choice" program. As of now I'm thinking that is my goal. Obviously, I realize I need to pay my "dues" and put in my time. And in a year, things may change. I live in near Cadillac MI. I understand SNI has a hub there but I don't know where.
I'm 41. I have thought for a long time that I would like driving truck. Some may ask, why I'm changing careers now. That's an excellent question. The short answer is, my current job wasn't providing enough income and no benefits. Years ago (23 years old) I pulled houses. That only lasted a few months.
Feel free to ask questions.
I start school Monday. Probably drive for SNI

"Paying dues" is a myth; don't fall for it. The only dues to pay is for those that don't plan well before jumping in to trucking.
If you go with Schneider, look at the tanker division, Schneider Bulk. Good money there. Get the tanker/hazmat endorsements, TWIC and a passport.
Also look at Trimac Transportation; they do hire new CDL grads even if the website has different.
NTB Trucking is also good for pay and benefits.
Tankers are best though. -
Tank or dedicated. Best pay with SNI.
I run dedicated. Home daily. Consistent miles/money. Drive a daycab , IF I get stuck out for whatever reason they put me in a hotel. We have an account down in Milan for Georgia Pacific.harlycharly55, centralmi and hal380 Thank this. -
The parking area in Cadillac is at Pinnacle Driving School, it's not a hub.
I live between Clare & Farwell, and parked in Cadillac when I started with SNI. Got a place in Clare to park now, though, which makes it a bit easier on me - 4 miles to home vs 54 miles.
Good luck, whatever you decide!centralmi, hal380 and gentleroger Thank this. -
so , go to schneiderjobs.com and input your area info and do the job search. It will show what is currently being offered for your area. read through each posting to see if new drivers qualify.
I suggest doing the same with other companies too. just to see what your options are.
Figure out what your goals are and then narrow down the companies accordingly to which ones will best serve your goals. Having the goals to work toward makes the BS a bit easier to take you will find at any company.
Good luck and we are of course available to answer any and all questions to the best of our abilities.hal380, mickimause and centralmi Thank this. -
i already have a prehire letter from Schneider. I'm appling to as many companies as i qualify for. thanks for your comments.

Mickimause is the resident expert on the area up there. What skool are you going to and is it Sni approved? Listen to Chinatowns suggestions, that dude won't steer ya wrong.
hal380 Thanks this. -
Saying this Texas girl is a resident expert on Michigan will result in your number coming up next time you're close to an OC...
