ok before I get to the question, here is my situation:

I had a class 3 felony possession in 2000. I have a pending domestic battery charge that my lawyer says is self defense the whole way. The wife even lied to the cops last week and had me arrested over the weekend and the state's attorney has already agreed not to file charges. But. I do have a pending class A misdemeanor for domestic battery. In addition to that, I was a stay at home dad and stock trader for the last 14 years. So, I have nothing on my resume except contractors who I have done 1099 work for here and there and since sept 22nd.

I have spoken with a recruiter named Doug H. with Schneider and I told him absolutely everything and everything about my past, my current situation, my pending charges, me, etc. He has agreed to tell the trucking school that Schneider is interested and to go ahead and provide me with my CDL training. However, he has let it slip that he would be "selling" me to his superiors and cannot guarantee me a job once I get through the training. I am currently working as a 1099 subcontractor and the school doesn't have night classes, so I would have to give up my income to go to CDL training for 4 weeks and then pray Schneider or someone would hire me. I am bleeding money with two lawyers on the payroll already and just got informed that the divorce will be another $2500.

So, with all that said, is this Schneider recruiter just helping the CDL school get some cash or does anyone think Schneider will actually hire me ?

I do want to be a trucker and make cash. The recruiter told me I will make $45000 the first year and everyone else on here says $38,000 ish... So, I don't know what to believe and would appreciate any real feedback. Bottom line:

14 year old drug felony- never went to prison
pending domestic battery that will take 9 months to a year to sort out
no real work history since I always worked for family or as a 1099 contractor

What are my chances of getting hired on with Schneider ?

With charges pending, you'll have a tough time getting hired by anyone. It costs a lot of money to recruit a qualified driver...far more to train one from scratch...and they want to be relatively sure that they will see a return on that investment. If there is a real possibility that your schedule will be inflexible regarding home time in order to make court appearances, and you might be required to miss 30-90 days or more if you are convicted and given "time" as a punishment, then their investment in recruiting and training you isn't nearly as good.

In all honesty, you'd be better off staying home and taking care of the legal stuff working the job(s) you have now...and if trucking is something youu still want to do after all of your cases are decided and you are no longer facing jail time. You'll have better luck finding a job if you are ready and able to go to work full time with a flexible enough schedule to meet the companies needs.

I'd say you'll have to go by what Schneider says cause all we can do here is speculate what we think but in the end the SNI higher ups will have to make the call . One question you could answer that may help is have you taken a PLEA ON the battery case ? If you haven't you are not convicted so you dint have a record of it until you take a PLEA or a conviction is rendered ..

Only help I can give , I'd definetly see if other have a similar experience . I don't think the 14yr old case will hurt you being it's over 10 yrs ago the current one would be my question as mentioned above and how it's worded or plead

I will need to make it for home time on the court appearances. About every 90 days. That is totally true.

As far as jail time, I doubt it. I used to go to church and my old pastor would probably say something good if the courts called. I volunteered for our local government's special events committee and we raised money for St Jude, homeless shelter, and did coat drives for the poor. I was also a little league coach and have a county detective that will give me a good word. Then, the judge would have to consider that even if I was found guilty, there is still a ton of doubt that it truly was in self defense because it was.

On the other hand, Doug H. at Schneider didn't want the transcripts from my stock trading history like PAM transport did (who also wants to hire me but I don't like their deal).. I thought that was unusual. PAM Transport actually ran all my info through their departments to verify my info and two friends had to talk with the recruiter to validate my claim that I was a stay at home dad for 14 years. Doug H. at Schneider only wanted to speak with me.

I am still open to other opinions if anyone has them.

    re: Jar-Head

No, the battery charge is still ongoing, and I have informed Schneider the details of it. My lawyer plans to drag this out over the course of maybe 9 months. He will originally file for a grand jury and then switch it to bench trial later on because the judge will stick to legalities while jurors are known to be discriminatory. But, to drag it out and stall out my wife and the state's attorney, he is working the case to last a long time.

My lawyer is very good and has already told me we stand a good chance. He has been through 3 divorces and is trying to establish himself as a proven winner of a lawyer to charge the big bucks in the future. With the judge we are getting, he is known to be very fair and my lawyer has won 3 out of 4 cases with him, and the one he lost; the client confessed while on the stand accidentally.

The recruiter at the school said Schneider only wants 6 months of driving out of me to get their money back, and I believe I can deliver 6 months before my case is resolved. Again, it is a misdemeanor.

Also, my lawyer says we can get a court order on the sentence to allow me to leave state for work purposes aka, still drive while on probation.

Your recruiter should be able to provide you with a pre-hire letter, which basically states you meet hiring requirements. Without one of those I'd be skeptical.

    Good luck...!
