Just home from my week with a TE. I say I'm a 'newbie' because I have to start over again after being off the road for years. Actually I've driven half a million miles of more but can't "show" them. I've been pretty impressed with Schneider so far (from what I've seen) but driving this week really pressed home how things have changed.
I remember driving my 335 Cummins and those 318 Detroits and thinking how I wished I had one of "them there" 400-500 horsepower engines that blew by me all the time. (My 335 was geared for 75 MPH and I got a ticket in a 350 Detroit for 86 MPH in a 60 once) But as I sat in this big whopping 400-500 HP Cascadia this week I longed for my old Kenworths! LOL

I understand the company side and MPH and all but trucking sure isn't "fun" any more! LOL Be safe out the kiddies!!

80 is to fast for trucks, at least as long as we're sharing the road with four wheelers. If a truck is doing 80-90, the fourwheelers are going to do 85-95, because they just can't stand to look at a headache rack/van/reefer/tanker etc. The "I gotta be there first" mentality already causes enough accidents @ 60 ish. :Casualty helicopter

That Cascadia is 50 times the truck that old Kw was, I too learned to drive in a old w9 with a 260 detroit and a 5X4. I now drive new Pete, no comparing the old and the new, exept I hate def.

Actually you find the oppsite, when you drive a fast truck, say in WY, NE, etc the trucks and car do not have problems at all. I only find the problems your thinking of here in CA, where the speed restrition causes the problems, along with the drivers in the mega fleet truck blocking the second lane and the fuel islands.

One thing I found also is that putting along at 60 MPH you tend to get bored and distracted more easily. Back when the speed limits out west were "Reasonable and Prudent" you stayed on top of it more.

But those days are gone! But that 550 Cummins and a 15 speed that isn't cut back would be a hell of a ride!!

    Be Safe out there!

Kind of weird driving without a bedroom, kind of nice to sleep in a room though. Took a run to Cedar City Utah, kind of nice strolling down the road, singin along with Chet and Buck.
Pullin doubles gets kind of squirelly above 75 or so. Nice to have the options.

Years back I had a steady run from VT to Phoenix.....Out on the AZ & NM 40, I used to run a Shaker w/425 turned way up.....Speedo only went to 80, had it pegged way past that on more then one occasion, kinda like flying a plane ......No one around for miles & miles & miles, kinda like running West Texas too......Have you ever run out west, past the St.Louie gateway?..Doesn't sound like it....Now the left commie coast of Kali, now that's a whole nother story......

If you want excitement and high speed cornering you should probably apply to NASCAR

Things and drivers were much different back then. Most of the drivers then had grown up in on or around trucks and had more diesel fuel in their veins than blood! We didn't have these 30 wonders learning to be truckers! I couldn't even tell you when I first started driving. Between the farm jobs and log woods it seems I was driving by the time I was old enough to reach a pedal. It's not like that any more. And newer people don't have the respect and common sense we used to have.
    Be Safe!
