    Hi everyone,

I just got back from a recruiting event for Schneider. I walked in with the mindset to apply for a Team Tanker position, however the field recruiter was recommending that I apply for team dedicated positions (Amazon or Ford specifically) since they pay better than tanker.

From what I've been hearing from other truck drivers, the pay is better (tanker) and highly recommend starting with a tanker position after obtaining CDL because of the job experienced gained.

Would there be a reason why the field recruiter would discourage me from applying? He indicated that the failure rate of new drivers in this division leave/get fired more often, the pay is not as high as it used to be and the training is longer compared to team (which I'm already aware of). I already applied for one of the dedicated positions with an interview this Friday.

Also, I'm a female, just in case that's a reason why he was discouraging me from applying for tanker.

    Thanks.

the only thing i could think of is
    A. they really need teams for those two acounts or
    B. maybe they dont think you could lift those hoses maybe or
    C. they actually do pay better. amazon and ford are time sensitive accounts. they could pay better for that reason.

idk make your post more clear to you said you wanted team tanker then you go on to say and the training is longer compared to team im not sure if you were talking about being solo or where you talking about tanker training being like a week longer than van

Sorry if I was not clear about training times; Dedicated Team: 2.5 weeks, Tanker: 5 weeks

The recruiter did indicate that there are Team Tanker positions (my bf and I had originally applied for a team position back in Oct '14).

He didn't specify the pay for the positions (dedicated and tanker), but a screener contacted me yesterday after I applied for one of the Dedicated Team positions. Pay is per day, not per mile, about $925 weekly, (so $154/day for 6 day work week). Averaging about 4-5k miles, but shouldn't matter if paid by day.

I have yet to see what the team tanker pay is. (per day/per mile, average miles/wk, etc.)

it seems a little odd they would pay by the day a team operation isnt ment to stop rolling your ment to keep driving only stoping for fuel and to go to the bathroom getting paid by the day and with that little is odd on the site it says you can earn up to 47 cents if they start you off at lets say 43 cents and you run 5000 for the week wich is esily douable by teams they are taking 150 from both of you in 5 days thats 300 dollars and it takes you 6 days to make 925. im not saying dont work for sni im just saying you and your boyfriend need to push that you get tanker by miles or even van by miles the only way your making money per day if you get tied up at a reciver or the weather is bad and tankers does usally pay more at sni

A word of advice from a former team driver ( wife and I drove team from 04-08 ) If the other driver isn't family or significant other then it is not the easiest thing to do. Living with someone in the truck 24/7 330 days a year is tough. Also just starting out as a driver new driver's need to be able to relax after a day of driving. My recommendation is to become a solo driver on the tanker side if you really want to be a tanker yanker. As for the difference in the money take the 1st year and get the experience then concentrate on the money.

The recruiter was probably a van recruiter which also covers dedicated usually. I would say he was trying to fill vacancies within his division.

This worries me since I won't be teaming with my BF, but perhaps eventually once he gets his finances together to start working in the trucking industry. I didn't want to do solo because I prefer to be in a truck with someone (just for safety).

Just me, but the last part(just for safety) is the reason I won't team with some random driver, especially one that may have just got done training as well. At the same time, teaming is not for me anyway. Just thought I would throw that out there.

I understand the safety issue but it's not as bad for females as it was in the past don't get me wrong you're still going to be hit on and all but it's safer now than in the past. Besides if a driver at a truck stop hits on you just walk away bit if it's your Co driver the back isn't going to be far enough away.

Talk to Mickimause on here she drove solo for SNI and can give you great advice.
