I live in south Louisiana, and I'm considering Schneider. I worked for KLLM for a year (which went poorly - see the thread I made), and I've been working for a grocery distributor for the last 3 years. All years safe driving, no accidents or tickets, yadda yadda. Basically my time is running out at AG because my coworkers signed a contract (union job) that is very underwhelming on the pay raises for a single guy living in a city where the cost of living is the highest in the state. My rent and bills are eating up well over 3/4 of my paycheck now, so it's time to unload those. I'd pretty much just pack up my apartment into a storage unit and hit the road to save money.

My brother in law worked for Schneider tank for a few years before leaving for a weekends off job, and still refers people to the pumpkins. I should have listened to him out of school, but I'm an idiot and suffered through $13k in 9 months with KLLM. I'm not opposed to yanking tanks with Schneider - I'm really just looking for what's best for me.

A few questions I'll ask, then hangup and listen:

    - One of the problems I had with KLLM were the length and time of hauls. My typical loads at KLLM as a company driver were always less than 1k in mileage and always were way too long to get there, usually something like picking up in Ohio on a Friday morning and delivering in South Carolina on Monday evening. It was awful. How are the loads at Schneider for company drivers - tank and box trailers?

    - Are company drivers fed the scraps from the lease drivers? That was a HUGE problem for me at phllem as the lease drivers got all the thousand mile trips and we got the crap. Seemed like every time I was assigned a long trip it'd be interrupted half way and I'd be ordered to swap out for a b.s. run.

    - What's the pay rate for experienced drivers? I currently make $20/hour at my job and really don't want to get stuck with $400 paychecks again. I want to stay busy if I'm going to be a thousand miles from home! Also, when do the sign on bonuses get paid out?

    - How much does the company micro manage drivers? Do they harass drivers about idiling, fuel mileage, etc? Are they installing cameras like most of the big carriers are doing? I'm sure they've fallen to the elogs by now...

    - When assigned a route, does the company give local directions and recommendations to get to the receiver? One of the things I loved about KLLM was that they had a macro that would bring back tips to get to/from shippers/receivers provided by other drivers.

I'm sure more questions will pop up, and I'll ask. I'm exploring all options at this point and i'm pretty much set on going back to a regional or OTR company. I've got a few months before my lease at my apartment expires - so I'm going to make sure I find the right fit. Thanks!

look at superior carrier for tank outfit. Terminal near baton rouge and lake charles. Schneider tank is fine for inexperienced but you wont make more than ~45k/yr there.

If you don't want micromanaging, you should look elsewhere.

Sni isnt bad, but they want a hive mind among all the drivers.

Governing (64 mph), speed management (no greater than 60mph), elogs, they haven't added cameras but I'll be leaving if they add a driver-facing one, fuel isn't tracked (but it may be coming), fuel stops are...

Not the worst of the worst when it comes to micromanaging I guess, but they are getting there. SNI bulk is treated differently when it comes to governing I think, but I'm dedicated so I'm not sure.
