So... I can understand not working for Lowes anymore, since you probably feel you are worth more than 8 bucks an hour, what happened to your first driving job? I am guessing it was not over-the-road...
Swift drivers, sound off

First I started when companies really took care of their drivers. Orientation,Lodging and food was always paid for during this. Not with just one but four different companies.
We got safety bonuses, fuel bonuses.performance bonuses and so on. the starting pay for a student back then was almost as much as what they start you out today. that was 17 years ago... If I remember right I started out at 21 cents a mile.
I never had to worry about shop time because I was put up in a hotel as soon as the truck was in shop status. No pulling the truck out to sleep in it at night. No sharing a motel room with someone you don't know. And it did not take days to get a repair that can be done in a few hours.
I will report back on my experience at Lancaster. So far the guy who came up to the truck and wrote the ticket out had a smile on his face, Big difference than the guy down in Houston. It looks like it will be done tomorrow. 12 to 24 hours now that is acceptable but five days Houston!!! That is just plain crazy!! Plus Lancaster has 66 trucks waiting. I understand you cannot pay a driver for everything but cannot expect a driver to work for free on everything except mileage.Last edited: Apr 19, 2011

It appears that Swift is going to give me a chance. You see, I've been off the road since 09 and wasn't able to get hired ANYWHERE because I lived in Florida and we all know how hard it is to get a load out of there. SO, I just moved to Texas and it looks like Swift is going to let me work for them. I could care less about orientation pay, or not getting paid for this and not getting paid for that, I JUST WANT TO DRIVE AGAIN. I love this job and if I have to work for 26 cents a mile to get back into it, that's what I'll do. Whether it's Swift or whoever ends up hiring me, I'm just grateful for the opportunity to get back on the road. It's been too long.
scottied67, inkeper, wicked and 3 others Thank this. -
welcome back

Where in the #### did I say anything about needing to get paid for changing a bulb? Quote it for me.
AFA Lowe's Injun? You get a lot of exercise "jumping" to conclusions. New manager wanted to trim wages to get her profits up to make herself bigger bonuses. She chased off and fired as many as she could. My 2 immediate bosses work down the street from me.I was making more than other specialists in my department because of my experience in flooring. My old manager salvaged as many as he could. He asked me to fill out an application to drive for his store 2 weeks ago. I did. If the position comes open I'll be working 5 miles from home.
BTW we were required to go to the computer every week for training. It didn't ever happen. They tried to run us with a skeleton crew to save money.scottied67 Thanks this. -
I always feel inspired to work for a company that first thing on Monday you get a message threatening you with you job on the qualcom. ######## about backing accidents, and idle. Tells you how much we are valued.
"and don't think that goes unnoticed...."
And no, our COO sent me a message about my 6.98% idle.scottied67 and red S-10 Thank this. -
For the poster above that had to take a meeting at lunch time? Did they buy lunch? Were you salary?
If one of my workers got hurt working construction? I had to pay him by the hour until he got out of the ER.
There is laws that govern the employer/employee relationship kids.
Is it time for me to attempt cheap shots at you Injun with your past employment?
Where have I gotten person with anyone here? Can't prove your point, so you result to other tactics.scottied67 Thanks this. -
No, it wasn't a cheap shot, there was no conclusion drawn and I never said you didn't want to change a light. The point was a narrow example to a broad audience: If you don't like the terms of your employment, go where the terms suit you better.
I'm not saying Swift is perfect. There is no perfect out there. It just seems like you have nothing good to say about any aspect of the company. If you feel my attitude is part of the problem, maybe yours is, too....because you gripe, gripe, gripe yet remain employed by the very company you gripe about so vehemently. You have a year in, with (I'm assuming...don't say it) an excellent safety and service record. You should be able to pretty much go where you want. So why are you here?
Stop taking everything I say as aimed at you. I respond to several people at the same time. I don't have time or energy to focus on you. I have a man in my life. You ain't him.act6629, scottied67, BigShrek72 and 4 others Thank this. -
