When I was flatbed I was told that there about 500 flatbed trucks. Don't know how many O/Os.

Swift flatbeds calling card is lots of miles. As many as you can run, tons of 1000+, 1500+ loads, lots of deadhead. The CPM is below average for flatbed work, especially if you are new (after about a year you will be making 36cpm including platinum rank bonus which is about average). Starting out at 26 cents sucks though no getting around that.

Starting pay does suck but knowing the miles are there make up for it. .38cpm doesnt help when all one can run is 2000ish miles if lucky. I live near a terminal frequented by Swift flatbed loads and do not have to supporty family off of my income alone. So far it looks like a good deal for me and my situation. I spoke with the folks in charge at Gary for a few minutes on Friday and they mentioned a new(ish maybe) dedicated run from Greer to Gary and back. No details other than that to share for now but I did tell them that I was interested when they asked me.

As far as I know that is temporary. Running freightliner chassis out of Gaffney up to michigan and then coming back down with a coil or something. But the message said it's just for a month and they only need 10 trucks. But there's always the Gaffney to high point run you could get on eventually.

Yeah, that is what I figured. Was talking with Mike before I left Greer and mentioned that I would like to do the High Point run one day. He said "you have to wait until someone dies" haha. I will probably just stay OTR for now anyways but it is nice to have options. My travelling feet have not been satisfied yet.

Yep OTR is great. I actually filled in for a guy on the high point run for a couple of days, and it's a lot of work, fast paced, not my cup o tea. You are throwing 48 chains and binders per day. OTR is way more laid back, I'm on a 1600 mile run I haven't touched a piece of flatbed equipment in 3 days lol.

Nice. Love those long runs where its just drive and do your macro 32. And don't have to hear anything from the company for a few days.

I will be starting flatbed soon and the miles sound really good. I am going OTR and am actually hoping to be out between 3 and 5 weeks at the time so I can make some money. Then a nice 3 days off to visit grandkids. Really hoping to be able to work it out that way. Good luck to you all.

Lycan you will have no problem staying out 3 to 5 weeks. A guy I went through securement with stays out two weeks and goes home every other weekend. There are plenty of loads and miles for OTR flatbed. Have yet to meet anyone who is not getting miles OTR or dedicated. I'm loving the run I am on but definitely wouldn't mind going OTR.
